    Hi all,

I've generally avoided German style beers for a long time. Did not enjoy them in my earlier beer discovery days. More recently, I had a FFF Deesko which I thought was good and a Hottenroth which I thought was excellent. I was perusing the local beer store and I was thinking, what other Berliner Weisses am I missing out on? I'd appreciate any advice as this is a style I think I'd enjoy tackling.

    Cheers!

Edit: Yes, I've had Oarsman. The two listed above are better.

Though it's a seasonal (I think), Dogfish Head's Festina Peche is pretty easy to find.

    Bear Republic's Tartare is fantastic.

Didn't realize Festina Peche was a BW. It's... ok. As I research this category, there's not a whole heck of a lot out there. Mostly one-offs and tap only. I'll just have to seek out Professor Fritz 1809 and pick up a bottle of Snarling Badger.

    Thanks for the responses!

It appears as though you've missed out on the forever style leading but sadly long gone Schultheiss Berliner Weisse. Time to start firing up the time machine.

The only problem is, I don't want to trade for what it takes to get one right now

Good stuff. I'll have to search out Bayerischer.

I'd want to go into detail on which styles, but I tried a lot of them 10 years ago when, after turning 21, I wanted something different from BMC. Didn't really care for... well.. any of them. Hefeweisens were ok, but I could have lived without them.

Bear Republic Tartare is the best I've ever had. The 1809 is a close second.

Bells Oarsman is not typically regarded as a true Berliner (something to do with the way it is brewed), but it is easy to come across and cheap in comparison to most examples of the style. It's a good way to satisfy your Berliner craving without breaking the bank or going on a wild goose chase.

Just FYI, Snarling Badger isn't exactly indicative of the style. Some people enjoy it on it's own merits, it is just not your typical light, easy drinking BW.
