As I was standing in line a guy who lives in one of the apartments directly next to Other Half had to come outside with his own garbage bag to clean up people's trash because he has been getting sanitation tickets. This is going to start affecting Other Half. Amazing how some people have NO respect for the neighbors.

OH should be taking care of this on release days - they are bringing in this crowd, they should work to clean up. I'm sure they do some - but if its that bad, maybe they should be more proactive.

This is why we can't have nice things, guys!

I think it's going to start getting enough attention where OH is going to have to start really policing people drinking in line. Every time one of the employees walks past a rowdy group of guys chugging their Pliny bottles, they just shake their heads and laugh a little. Clearly, this is not the crowd they are hoping to bring for these releases.

Wonder how many of these people who show up for the block party would show up if NYPD enforced public drinking laws?

Just a matter of time before a big fight erupts or someone mows someone down with their car after getting blitzed drinking in the line. Then all of this will change.

It's only a matter of time before it starts getting police attention, which sucks because OH is going to have to take the heat for these idiots.

@dmb987 ,So let me get this straight, this person unloaded two cases of beer and brought them into the line? Did they then proceed to drink this beer in the line?

^ yes he did. Drank and traded as it seemed he had multiple IPs set up. Joined the share at the very front of the line with a bunch of other classless entitled dbags. He would even tell others to come to the front. I was about 15 or so upwind arrival then at open was 25-26. No one has any cajones to say anything and I'm tired of being the vocal one these days.

Got there around 4 and still was busy as hell. Line just to order a beer was snaking through the taproom. Even without a release, Other Half just can't accommodate crowds well.

Anyway, Citra was cool, Make It Rain cool. Latter tasted a lot like Hop Showers to me. Standout: Suparillo. That beer was bomb. Oh and AGE on tap? Damn. It had been many months for me and that was tasting bomb.

Also, I had pours of Half & Half and 2nd Anniversary at St. Gambrinus, those were both awesome too.

Theres a time and a place for drinking. It's weird that the time and place for some is outside OH before 10am, shrug.

I get it though, honestly I love meeting new BA's and doing shares, love it. I would be very tempted if I was in line and a generous BA offered me a pour of beer I had enjoyed or wanted to try, and it could totally happen because there are a lot of awesome BA's on this line that are responsible and clean, but there are way more that are not, and that sucks. The garbage thing really annoys me too, because there are dumpsters all up and down that block. You can't just hold your shit and toss it in the dumpster once your close enough? You remember to pack proper glassware but not a plastic bag for empties? Get it together. This to me is worse then the line cutters.

If these factors mean no big releases, or more silent releases we only have ourselves to blame. The next release I go to I'm going to feel obligated to clean up someones garbage because I want these to continue. Sad but thats what its become. If you are someone who drinks on the line or leaves their garbage everywhere because you don't care I'm not calling you out or trying to offend you but sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture. We all want this beer, so why ruin it?

Why are you so against people taking responsibility for themselves?

Should OH build a parking lot too so that people don't get towed from McDonalds?

Learn from Kane. Don't announce it, the beer will last longer, there will be no shit show, etc. people would be pissed but it would solve a lot of these problems if not all.

You should call them out and if they are offended that's on them. The posts on this thread are a big reason why a lot of BAs are dismissive/contemptuous of the big line releases. For all the nice, decent people there are tons of obnoxious, irresponsible people who ruin things, this one being craft beer special releases.

No that's not it at all. Calm down a bit.
Basically this is turning into an outdoor drinking party for alot of people. At similar events you expect the organizer to clean up after. Now they can't put out big trash bins and porta potties since its a NYC sidewalk but they could help ensure there is no trash around after. Unfortunately for alot of Americans - leaving trash around is socially accepted behavior, not so in other parts of the world. Do you think a few ppl posting here about littering in front of someone else's building is going to matter? I think someone from OH could be officially more vocal about it to those in line.

and yes I'd be happy to see ppl towed from the McDs, personal property rules are rules.

This is why I keep telling people to be loud about it. Yell at these fuckers. Shame them. Point at them. Call them out. They are not going to start anything physical because that would get them out of the line real quick.

I call out people all the time for cutting. I did yesterday at the the Winter's Grind event. Called out two people cutting the beer line, they looked at me, put their heads down, and went to the end of the line.

Totally agree with you. Unfortunately most people grumble to themselves but say nothing. I routinely call people out for rude obnoxious behavior but somehow sometimes people look at me like I'm the jerk. People would rather allow people to get away with shit than be in a potentially awkward social situation. Oh well. This is what you get.

You people are amazing. Nothing better to do than to bitch people out. Cops drove by like 3 times or so. They don't give a shit about people drinking in public. They care more about your parking then anything else. You stupid fucking millennial's care too much. He was one person with his girlfriend who cut the line. Who cares he made multiple trades with people in line it doesn't bother me and I saw him I around 25-30 in line. Worry about yourself.

That's a strange attitude to take. I think people who waited in line have every right to "worry" that line cutters will cause them to get shut out of buying the beer they came to get. Very strange that you're annoyed that people are calling people out for shitty behavior.

I don't actually see the drinking at the front of the line since I'm never that far up, but if you check Untappd check-ins at Other Half in the hours before a release, you'll notice a ton of check-ins, usually by the same few people, bragging about being first in line taking part in an "epic line share!!!!" I'm guessing these people validate themselves through Untappd check-ins?

EDIT: I'll preempt any angry responses by saying that you can read into this post what you will, I'm just pointing something out that people might not be aware of, not casting judgment one way or another.

Two people cut the line. It's not like 10 people showed up with him.

I'm not worried about cops. I'm worried about NIMBYs. The cops can't shut down a brewery for people drinking out on the sidewalk. But NIMBYs have the power if they don't like something in their neighborhood.

When the NIMBYs are finally fed up with people drinking and littering on their doorsteps at 7 am, then there are going to be major headaches for the brewery.
