I was speaking with a guy who said that the value of 2 375ml bottles was MUCH higher than 1 750ml bottle. Just wanted to get some opinions on this..

He's right....because then you get to have Blabaer TWICE. Do the math.

That's a tough call actually. I typically enjoy having 750's of lambic over 375's, but that does mean you can have it on two separate occasions (or 1 if you're bored). I'd say it's prety even. What does a 375 of Blabaer even trade for?

Lemme guess, he has 2 bottles of 375ml blabaer...

Well if i'm doing the math, then 375+375 = 750 or roughly $23+$23=$46. I understand having it twice would be a nice bonus, but with prices being equal / amount being equal, would you really give up THAT much more to obtain 2 375mls?

Personally, I wouldn't give up anything for a Blabaer of any size, at this point. I've enjoyed it on several occasions from both size bottles and was not all that blown away by it. For my $$$, Lamvinus is just as good, if not better (due to relative ease of access and also age-ability).

Fair enough - maybe i'll just look for St. Lamvinus then - Thanks.

I think the extra trade value would come in if you traded the 375's in two in separate trades. If they are packaged together then I speculate they would fetch closer to the same as a 750ml. But I am not trading, nor have traded for Blabaer so this is nothing more than a meaningless opinion.

I've heard that Jean Van Roy feels the same way. He said as much at a beer event about a year ago when asked what his favorite beer that he makes was.

I think the value in 2x375 over 1x750 would be the ability to taste one and cellar one. Just my take.

The only thing that would make 2 375's more valuable than 1 750 is that you can only get one bottle of each. So in order to get 2 of the 375's, you had to have someone get you one or trade for one. But coming from a person that is actively searching for some Blabaer, I would take either option.

Blabaer is anomalous beer. It is constantly sought by those who have never had it, and this makes up the cadre of people who usually do not have the ammo to trade for it. This is usually because 1) the other person had to trade for it or 2) isn't interested in parting out a blabaer. However, once someone has a blabaer to trade, you can never really trade laterally because the people with Izzy's, DDG, whatever else you would consider equitable, have already had blabaer and prefer St. Lamvinus or other beers to it.

The paradox arises when blabaer is hugely sought out but cannot rise/trade up, because of lack of desire from the upper tiered bottles, but it cannot trade down, because the person with a blabaer to trade doesn't want to accept parabola + CdT + Huna for a blabaer. Therefore, the blabaer sits usually in stasis and serves as either 1) a rite of passage and is shared or 2) remains in cellar purgatory until "the right deal comes along."

Smash that shit on the ground and embrace the desire to destroy something beautiful. In the Hegelian dialectic, your synthesis will be knowing what it is like to have and to not have blabaer, and you will land moar walez as a result.

Sooooooooo, what you're saying is, Blabaer is untradeable!

It is unlikely to trade 1) up 2) down or 3) side to side, bitches be hitting the switches in the blabaer ride.

Those bottles are usually consumed and someone gets to look like a beer hero for an evening, or they are packaged with something else sour to get a more rarerer sourerer.

I've gotten 2 in trades. 1 in the Unwanted whales BIF (Thanks CAM!) and 1 from a long-time trading partner with connections in Denmark.

In the Whales BIF, I sent a Bourbon DL to someone who shipped an Izzy to ... I received a 2011 750ml Blabaer.

From my trading partner. I received a 375 ml 2012 for whatever I thought was fair from a list of beers he was interested in. This included things like Zombie Dust and Heady to light whales like DL.

From my experience, I've traded up for a Blabaer and made a lateral trade.

As for comparisons to Lamvinus, I'm not sure I agree, however, I've only had Blabaer once, a 2007 in 2011. That beer I felt was very sours with a lot Blueberry tartness. StL to me tastes kinda flat and it has a lot of red grape skin tannins that I do not enjoy. I should revisit both to compare.
