Just cracked one. Mango and Pineapple was pretty good to me. Nothing over the top especially after Hopslam, but still good.

This has the weirdest medicinal finishing taste. Does anyone really like it or do u all agree?

    Absolutely hated it..... chemical/medicinal awfulness.

I tried it this weekend and didn't care for it. It tastes like a hoppy Jolly Rancher, which is a flavor combination that doesn't work at all.

I concur--floral jolly rancher! Had a tough time getting through a sample serving, and it has made me think differently of Ballast Point. Chill with the fruit!

Me too. Had to crack a GF sculpin to rinse my mouth out and remind myself why I like them and man, it's good

Think I'm gonna stick with just vas, GF, and regular sculpin from now on. They can keep the rest

I'm allergic to watermelon. Sounds like an awful way to go...

Watermelon cough syrup? My thoughts were "Handy to have around, a really strong beer when you need a quick jolt, but you won't just drink it for any other reason than medicinal."

I agree it's was a weird beer. A hoppy watermelon candy IPA. Sounds better then it is.

If they would have gone more of a tart route it would have worked better I think.

I thought it smelled great. I was not impressed though, I felt like I was drinking hard liquor (10% ABV - yes I know, not the point). I got that unintended sample of the distillery side of Ballast Point, maybe Watermelon wasn't the right fruit to pair with Dorado? All these multi-thread complaints about "sticking" with the original is ridiculous, no one complained about Grapefruit Sculpin. We all understand not everyone will enjoy a particular beer the same way the next person does or does not but with that said it wasn't the worst beer I tried lately and I'm on to the next one.

Luckily I only got a small sample from a Ballast Point rep at Whole Foods because it was god awful. He mentioned there is cucumber in it as well.

It did smell nice. Grapefruit sculpin enhanced sculpin to me. Everytime I have a sculpin I think, it's missing something..
That and victory at sea are world class to me .
    with that said,
It's pretty apparent to me that all these new flavors are the result of some board meeting and quick rushed ideas after the buyout.

That's what that funk taste is! Cucumber! I can taste more of that then the Watermelon

I'm not actually convinced that these flavor variants of Sculpin, Dorado, and Even Keel are results of the buyout. I recall seeing pictures of the chalkboard tap menu at Ballast Point last year with flavor variants already available to try. Example: Pineapple Sculpin. I think everyone is just now more aware of who Ballast Point is because of the buyout and now that these variants are coming out people are assuming they're completely new when they are just being bottled after being around for some time.

I think it sounds absolutely awful... so maybe I'll like it!

Probably not going to try it though, considering the general consensus of this thread.
