I knew I should have gone today. Was half way there but then figured it would set me back from doing the rest of my errands in the evening.

Negative. I'm checking in regularly for a link/event/anything on their social media as well.

I know this a bit old, but I am curious about this. Vendome Bev Hills just posted Lazy Susan on Instagram today and a few people were wondering how the hell they got bottles when it sold out quickly online. Does the owner or beer guy know them personally? I see that that store gets basically any and every beer that makes it to California, often before everyone else. Is he connected somehow?

On a side note, I hear they were selling some non distro out of state bottles as well, so maybe there's some back door trade shenanigans going on?

It's exactly what I posted there and what you quoted.

HPB self distributes at about a case per account to around 4 to 5 stores. So regardless of how fast it sold out, HPB sets aside a few cases for accounts. This way it helps spread their word around to locals and covers a fairly good area in terms of putting their product out there.

Bob is fairly picky about who carries his beer. They have to show that they know how to store beer, sell it quickly enough and not just sit on it in the back. Much the same, any account that gets HPB kegs has to got through a fairly rigorous screening by Bob to make sure they're giving it the best treatment possible.

Long established that connection with Bob at Woodshop 10. Ever since he's on the list as basically the west side reach of their beer.

For as much as I know Bob, he's the last to do anything even remotely shady. Dude's on the up and up.

I see, that makes sense. Thanks. That's crazy that Bob is that adamant about how people sell his beer, in a good way. Long is the beer guy at Beverly Hills Vendome I assume? That dude definitely knows what he's doing, he has the best selection around.

I didn't mean anything shady about HPB, just heard that Bev Hills was selling some Heady or Pseudo Sue or something, could be b.s though.

While back they were selling stale bottles of TG pseudoSue for like $20 per... I lol'd and walked out.

Yep, and he's also very lenient when it comes to the rules, but I was talking to Woodshop Chris on my way out last night and we're thinking Bob will start cracking down if he sees any ridiculous things like $50 bottles of BA Hammered Satin for sale.

So it's true then? I wonder how he gets them? Trades his HPB allotment maybe?

Good luck tomorrow to all. Based on the amount of friends I've already had ask me to proxy for them, I think it's going to be a pretty quick sellout.

While online sales with proxies definitely open releases to more potential customers vying for something that is in limited supply, you are lucky enough to be able to go to the bar and drink all the HPB you want on draught when all those out-of-staters can't. And I'm guessing kegs of Lazy and Lazier might both be on at the release. Doesn't that seem like a pretty special deal for locals only?

I've missed every single release party there's been for the past seven or eight sales, which includes all the special kegs they put on just for releases. But sometimes I'll walk in randomly and Hola, LA or Help Yourself will be on. I still don't fully understand what the fuck Woodshop is, but I walked in a few weeks ago and there was a bottle of HPB's Woodshop beer sitting in the fridge so I got to have it. Being local has enough perks. It doesn't have to have all the perks.

I get your point. There's a certain amount of fun or pride one can take in having a local thing. "Keep Austin Weird" and all that. In the context of this conversation you might want to re-think this part of your statement, though. You might not mean it, but you're implying, "Think about the less fortunate and have compassion - but only if they live within your city limits".

Can anyone proxy for me (assuming I'm able to snag a few bottles tomorrow)? I'm recovering from a shoulder surgery and not sure if I can hang with the 4 hour round trip drive from San Diego.
