Just picked up sixers of Boy King and Blackbeerd at my local shop this week. Are these now year-round releases?

Also, I didn't notice the ABV on either of the cans... seems a bit dangerous seeing as how they're both 9+%

Pretty sure boy King is a seasonal. Which sucks I love the stuff.

Last year there were a couple batches of Boy King and there is usually only one Blackbeerd release. This year may be different but there hasn't been any official word as far as I'm aware.

Yeah those Boy King sixers are bad news. I was able to pace myself when they were in bombers and ran $10 each. But now being $14 sixers and in 12oz format it's too easy to sit around and put down a few of these super drinkable 10% ABV delights back to back (to back).

Also to answer your original question. Neither are year round, COAST's only two year round beers (at least to date) are Kolsch and Hop Art. Blackbeerd comes out once a year, (with a second Barrel Aged Blackbeerd release on most but not every year). Boy King is also seasonal but comes out a few times a year (I want to say 3-4 different times per year over the past few years).

According to my notes from work, Boy King will be released again in 6-8 weeks. Blackbeerd, a little more in 3-4 weeks but still very limited.

The plan is 4"ish" batches a year of Boy King, I am not sure about blackbeerd.
Also, Dead arm cans are coming back, I originally thought they were seasonal but apparently they will be year round.
I really love the style of the new cans too.

4-ish batches of Boy King and year round Dead Arm?!?! Best news I've heard today!

But by "year round" do you mean multiple x's per year or that it will be brewed and canned all year long like Kolsch/HopArt? I would guess the former but the latter would be amazing.

Given the thread title, I figured it was only right to post an actual picture

Interesting. That photo has Boy King being 16oz, whereas it's actually 12oz cans. Also, it's not an Imperial Stout. Haha

From what I understand, Boy King was supposed to be in 16oz cans, but then COAST lost their contract for those size cans (another whole discussion right there). Secondly, you don't consider 9.3% ABV to be imperial for Blackbeerd?!? :grimacing: I think it's listed as a RIS/IRS.

That is correct, they were all going to be 16oz cans but are now all going into the 12oz format. Also the Boy King can in that picture does say Imperial Stout on it, which I believe is what @zac16125 was referring to.

You're right. I totally missed that on the BK can. I thought he was questioning whether or not Blackbeerd was an imperial. Sorry, @zac16125!

So now that these are cans, I feel much more tempted to try them as a black and tan. Anyone try this yet?

Boy King was supposed to be 16oz and rye knot, blackbeerd and dead arm were gonna be 12oz. Don't quote me, I think that was the case before the can fiasco. Blackbeerd is an Imperial Stout, don't get the issue there.

The issue is that the Boy King can says Imperial Stout.

I like to blend but I don't mess with Boy King. That stuff is so good

I was gonna say "don't quote me" but I'd err on the side of less availability ie multiple times per year, but more often than BK and BB. We just picked up a fresh batch Monday.
