Try a nice stout from a pilsner glass and then in a zalto burgundy glass. You can thank me later.

It matters if you think it it matters..

Try an aromatic IPA from a hefeweizen glass - you'll thank ME for it.

I used to think the glassware was more about presentation than anything else and therefore, it could be interpreted as beer-snobbery. After years of brewing, I started to view beer as a sort of art form and so presentation does matter when you are proud of your creations. Others may simply wish to honor tradition by serving the various styles in their proper vessels. Honestly, I never observed a noticeable difference in the experience until I tried a Teku glass. The shape of that glass does an outstanding job of forcing the aroma to your nose as you enjoy the beer. Even my non-beer geek friends appreciate the value of drinking a fine craft ale from a Teku glass.

A more interesting question is "what types of designated glassware serve no purpose for style they are made for"

Although I own the new fancy "Stout" glass from Speigelau, I'm still not sure what it does other than look pretty but I like the shape and the glass just not sure it does anything to the beer.

I use Teku's for lighter sours so they don't warm up so fast.

Just wanted to see some thoughts on proper glassware.

for me its always situational, my local bar gets great beers from Grimm, Barrier, Peekskill, Finback & Singlecut but always serves them in a pint glass or even worse mason jars. Nonetheless i still enjoy these beers even if i rather have them at home from a proper glass but again its situational for me.

what are some thoughts on this?

My local beer centric bars serve lower ABV beer in shakers, the higher ABV gets tulips, plus the tulip pours are usually 8oz maybe 10oz if the bartender knows you. I think glassware is important. Never seen someone in a bar/restaurant served a Cabernet in a highball glass. For what we're willing to pay for some craft beer these days damn straight we should get great stemware.

Can't say it is important, but it sure is fun. I'll take a shaker, and a teku too.

For the price of beers in bars these days, I appreciate having the proper glassware.

At home it's a bit different, how many beers, how many glassware. Impossible to get them all. Not to mention those I break every few months...

I think so, I don't notice much difference...but I'm probably in the minority

I have never refused beer served in glassware not appropriate to the style.

On the other hand, I fully enjoy a beer served in glassware appropriate to the style.

I like proper glassware but I'm still skeptical as to whether it makes a difference. At home I definitely use proper glassware, out and about, I'm not sure if it makes a difference.

It makes a difference, but not as much (for me) as others say it does (for them).

For me it definitively adds a layer to the experience of drinking a good beer. If I'm trying to get the smells from a particular style with adjuncts it seems to help me smell the scents with a narrower mouth on the glass. I don't think the beer tastes better as a result of the glass after the first sip or two.

I usually just use whatever glass I feel like using during that drinking session. If it's something special, I usually either pour it in a Teku or a Tulip glass, though.

Comes down to the liquid in the glass for me as long as the glassware is clean.

    Proper glassware...

Actually, it's what some beer is packaged in....

Referred to as a BOTTLE =)

Tip to a 45 degree angle, place to lips, and repeat as needed!

    Enjoy!

    Seriously...

I have a ton of different beer glasses. For most beers I use a 20oz proper pint glass. Others (usually big beers) I use a stemless wine glass. Does a Teku or Spiegelau IPA Glass make a difference? For 95% of palates...probably not.
