I'll be visiting St. Louis in early April and would like some suggestions on what beers to try and places to try them. I'll be with my family but they always tag along for brewery and beer pub visits in Texas. Any weird laws like no alcohol sales on Sunday or no kids I need to be aware of? I'm staying on maryville center drive 600 block and will have car.

Not sure what day you'll be in STL but 4 Hands have their annual Lupulin Carnival on April 2nd. Should be perfect for the family since they'll have good beer, music, food, and carnival act last.

    Alcohol laws of Missouri:
Missouri does, however, limit the hours of retail alcohol sales to between 6:00 AM and 1:30 AM Monday through Saturday, and – for an additional license fee – between 9:00 AM and midnight on Sunday.

It's pretty hard to have this law mess up your ability to get beer as long as you don't try to get any after 1:30 AM or before 9 AM on Sunday.

    As far as suggestions:
    Side Project Cellar
    Perennial Artisan Ales
    4 Hands Brewing

Those would be the top three to hit while in town (in my personal order). Not sure what styles you are into, but each of those breweries have an ever-changing selection of awesome beers.

Schlafly is also an option (right near the cellar in maplewood), but their beers are a little less adventurous and more run of the mill as far as I'm concerned. Also if you like bar games (shuffleboard and darts), Heavy Riff (in dogtown) is an awesome, chill little place that my wife and I go to quite a bit. They have some excellent house brewed beers like Velvet Underbrown with Coffee and Vanilla (also have other varieties constantly rotating- good stuff).

Bottleshops- hit up The Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton for your fix. Runners up include Craft Beer Cellar (in Clayon) and Saint Louis Hop Shop (in Cherokee- kinda sketchy area, but good place).

    Hope this helps!

If you go to the Cellar I suggest hopping down the Manchester corridor and you can also hit Schalfly Bottleworks, Heavy Riff, Modern, and UCBC (grove location)

If you head to 4 Hands consider also going over to Square 1, they make a really nice maple stout

UCBC (grove location) is very kid friendly. I like Bailey's Range for a bar. Great burgers and the kids love the homemade ice cream.

One caution on Wine & Cheese Place...it is not open on Sundays. Otherwise, it and Craft Beer Cellar are great options.

I too will be visiting St Louis, but from Minneapolis on 4/7 & 4/8. It's ambitious, but we plan on hitting Perennial, The Civil Life, Earthbound, 4 Hands, Schlafly Bottleworks, Side Project, Modern Brewery, Urban Chestnut Bierhall, Alpha, and the Schlafly Tap Room over the course of a day and a half. Any thing anybody would skip?

We're also up for meeting any locals at any of these places to hang and trade Minnesota beers if anyone is interested.

Obviously subjective but if time is of the essence I would personally skip one of the schlaflys, UCB and Alpha.

UC bierhall is a really cool space but their beer is pretty sub-par IMO. Also, no need to go to both Schlafly's- the taproom is a little more intimate, bottleworks is the main brew hub- just depends on what youre looking for.

Do not miss Schlafly Tap Room! It's a great place.

Do not miss UCBC if you like well-crafted German-style ales. It all you want is hops or sour ales, skip it.

Sorry to piggyback but any good spots near Scottrade Center? Might be coming down for the NCAA tournament next week.

Anybody interested in sharing some of the on site cellar offerings at Side Project on March 11th?

Lupulin Carnival is a ticketed event. Would they let kids in for free? Most ticketed beer fests I've been to don't allow anyone in under 21.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to pay $30-40+ for a ticket and bring kids. The events aren't planned for them. There's just a lot of adults standing around drinking beer. You don't want to over-imbibe and then drive them home. I never brought any of my kids to one until they turned 21.

Go to a brewpub and just enjoy a pint or two.

Obviously not a fan of German beer.

I won't be there, but you picked a good week to go. Their tap and bottle list is insane right now.

Perennial and Side Project are must go to as is the Budweiser brewmaster tour.
4 hands is also really solid.

Those would be my must. I regularly do Peren, SP, and 4H when I am in town but I cannot recomend the bud tour enough. Really interesting.

Skip Urban Chesnut and Shafly. Both are cool spaces but the beer is very mediocre compared to what the top three I mentioned are doing.

Do not under any circumstances go to Alpha.

Skip both Schlafly's, Urban Ches, and Civil life, as well as Alpaha (just never go there). They usually have civil on draft at Side Project and the other are mediocre compared to the rest IMO.

Any of the iTap locations will have a bunch of locals on tap if you want to try a few

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the knock on Alpha?

Seriously, do NOT skip The Schlafly Tap Room! It's a staple in the St. Louis beer scene! There's no hype surrounding it, but that's a good thing.
