Seems that Vince has left Lord Hobo for greener pastures in Asheviille at Burial Beer Co.

I was curious to hear if anyone had heard if he left on good terms and/or who the new brewer for Lord Hobo will be. Can't wait to see if this means more tweaking of their lineup, as well.

It's not based on conjecture - Vince is officially in Asheville now. Have they hired a new Brewer? Will there be a change in philosophy now?

About freakin' time they made a change...

The second he left Night Shift, their IPA program took off and improved. I bet the same will happen at LHBC now assuming they don't hire some clown... :grinning:

I actually was talking to someone last night who knows the new head brewer, but I didn't catch his name. It sounded like Vince's departure was amicable through the little we talked about Lord Hobo.

I don't even know where to begin with this post. Pretty clear that most of the problems at Hobo were caused by Lanigan. Vince is moving, so if anyone made a change it was him.

As per this article, Vince came in at least wanting to make a stout, but that clearly never happened. I'd guess Vince had very little to do with LH's philosophy and unless Lanigan has had a change of heart I wouldn't expect a dramatic shift there.

Seriously, stop this line of thought, you just look foolish and childish. There are so many business decisions that effect the manner in which a beer is brewed, the ingredient choices ($$), the time to market ($$), the overall style and aim, etc... that were likely not in Vince's hands. That can include hop choices, yeast choices, time in tanks, blending, pushing products to market when they shouldn't be, etc...

Additionally it has been posted multiple times in these forums that Vince was not the head brewer at Night Shift. His leaving had nothing to do with their perceived improvements or changes. And regardless of what this community thinks they've been successful for some time. See their tap room, and remember what it used to be.

Not sure if your smile face emoji was supposed to make this all a joke, but knowing the way people talk about LHBC around here I'm guessing it's not. Vince is a good guy, and a talented brewer. Obviously others in the industry agree and thus hired him. He is not a clown.

What a ridiculous thread. lets all take a moment to realize if youre the head brewer, and you release mediocre over hyped beer (boom sauce....) your street cred is gonna take a hit. It doesnt matter what you can brew on your best day. youre the quarterback, you get all the credit, good or bad.

Sure I guess your right that Vince has gotten blame whether deserved or not. Just like how QBs get blamed whether they deserve it or whether management deserves it for giving him sub-par receivers.

Does that mean that the blame should just hang out there and not be disputed / clarified / or maybe even in some cases amplified? If you think that man you haven't listened to sports radio, or spent too much time on these forums.

I for one would be very excited to try this burial brew co in a year or two. Im a management blamer personally, commonly siding with the QB. i think the owners at Night shift (who i have had personal disagreements with before) and the LHBC are all bafoons.

However, does this mean their head brewer gets to walk away scot free, no. Absolutely not. He gets another shot, which leads one to presume he deserves it. But he's currently 0-2

You, sir, are an ass. Unless you work there or know Vince personally, these comments are just mean and ill informed.

Burial Brewery is already a pretty well-acclaimed brewery in Asheville, and I am sure he will do great there. I don't think he is 0-2, its been beaten to death, but he was not the head brewer at night shift. So why would that fault go to him. Because he left and they got better at IPAs? His leaving coincided with multiple other factors which could have resulted in the improvement.

A new brewer will probably shit his pants if made an offer given the amount of brand new equipment and space they will have. As long as they know how to make what BA people want and also some styles for the thousands and thousands of others that just stop by to try a brewery out. I have a huge amount of friends who like to visit breweries. Maybe 3% of them give two shits about hoppy/hazy juice bombs. The rest all have different preferences. Hobo, make the juice bombs we want and mix in some other styles and I imagine you will do quite well. Here's to hoping the next step is a good one.

The beers he's churning out speak volumes. I wish him the best at Burial and I'm sure that Lanighan had plenty to do with it as well during his tenure at LHBC but still. There's just no excuses. They do "research" and tastings all of the time at LHBC and yet their beers are average at best. They've been around for almost a year now. This is just ridiculous.

Even with a new head brewer, Lanigan has severely damaged his brand, character and reputation. At this point, he is just leaving his market in the dark while other breweries are very forthright about their future. I'm not looking for an apology from him for his past remarks and arrogance. But, a quick message to the people who will ultimately decide if he sinks or swims would be refreshing. I see no reason why I should support him, or his brewery anymore if he can't even take a few minutes to let us know what his plan is...if he has one. Best of luck to the new head brewer. They will certainly need it.

I think Consolation Prize is great. If it didn't have all this baggage attached it would probably rate higher.
