Hint 3: Keeping with the sports theme: my target lives in a state with a Big 10 school

A coach that I respect recently departed your state and headed south.
Big in the respect he has earned. He is not a portly man.
Although people who hear of him might think he is hefty.

I got sloppy early and eliminated more people than I intended, so going to try and remain vague with the next few.

Hint #6

Basements/foundations are a major issue with many of the homeowners in my target's city
