I'm an Interventional Radiology Tech by day.....Hazy beer Troll by night.....

    Half of that is true.

I started brewing in beer in March 2012 shortly after falling in love with craft beer, particularly a scratch series IPA by Troegs. From there the obsession grew. Like most hobbies, I went in over board, reading books, forums, and the inter webs as often as I could while maintaining a full time job. I'm 30 years old. I've got a wife and a 2.5 year old son. Both of them are very understanding when I spill yeast on the rug. I brew mostly 5 gallon batches, but can do 12 gallon batches if need be for family events etc.

I've never been one to enter competitions, just mainly because they're aren't any BJCP comps located near me. While the NEIPA is one of my newest passions, I love beer clear and hazy alike, depending on the style of course. I love brewing German inspired lagers, and I love those beers to be clear, either with the help of gelatin, or a cold keg. I like most styles of beer, and only am slightly averse to Hefeweizens and Rauchbiers. Have had some good Hefe's and can appreciate them, but Rauch malt is a tuff one for me. Beers I find myself enjoying the most often are sour beer, german lagers, IPA's (hazy and clear), hoppy or malty red ales, wee heavy's and Imperial stouts (may or may not be aged in Barrels.

I usually brew stove top BIAB with distilled water using Bru N Water. But when I have a chance to get the cooler and keggle out I enjoy spending a day in the garage submersed with dangerous propane fumes. I will take the risk of using my crappy filtered tap water when making more "rustic" beer styles, that will hang out in a carboy for a while with some sort of mixed culture.

Outside of brewing I enjoy Archery hunting, Bowling, Golfing, and summers full of yard games with family and friends. I'm extremely competitive, and don't enjoy losing. I'm a very easy going guy, and don't let many things bother me.... and the occasional drunken forum response is just something I do.....please God....forgive me.

    Cheers

    Pat

I'm a retired safety engineer as of 3 years ago, and I now spend a part of 4 days each week doing volunteer work as a math tutor for GED students and also as a delivery person for the local food bank. I've been brewing for around 15 years, but only a few brewing sessions each year, although it's been a year and a half since my last one. I started out brewing mostly clone recipes that looked interesting, but have gravitated to clone recipes for commercial beers that I like, such as Pliny, Zombie Dust, etc.

We're 'empty nesters' here, and I have three adult daughters, one here in Michigan, one in Oregon and one in California. Soon I'll start planning a 3-week pub crawl to the west coast to visit our two daughters out there.

I am a forensic examiner, FSU alum (GO NOLES) I have been brewing with my brother for the last 4 years. Would love to start a brewery but I have two little dudes (5, 2) that need my time. I am a total craft beer snob, with the beard to prove it. I love collecting whales, beer that is. I have about a 100 bottle cellar. Been married for 9 years and she hates the fact I have brewing equipment in the garage.

I'm a LNG plant operator for a local utility, been doing that for 26 years now and doing a rotating shift the entire time. Before that I was in the Navy for 6 years and was on board the USS Saratoga for the first 4 years of my service, and saw a good chunk of the world doing a 8 month med cruise, and then a 7 month med/IO cruise. Been married for 30 years and have one son who lives in Nebraska. I've been brewing off and on since 03 and never seem to have enough time to brew since my work shifts run 7 days in a row, but retirement is CLOSE and I think I'd like to just pick up a part time job or something at a local brewery, or maybe hand out buggies at Walmart :grinning:. No other hobbies really except brewing and maybe bbq'n and spending time just relaxing at home.......

I work in logistics for a large consumer products company, but my background is in math.

Outside of work, I'm in my upper twenties, happily married for 5 of those but going on 10 years together. No kiddos much to the chagrin of my in laws. I love to play golf, watch hockey, and pretty much any other activity that pairs well with drinking beer.

Been brewing for about three years and have gotten to the point that I prefer my own over commercial beers for most styles, but I'm yet to brew something that has fully meet my expectations.

I'm an RN who enjoys knowing how and why things happen. I'm also crafty with woodworking, and enjoy time in the garage fixing stuff. I learned about craft beer and had light bulb go off in my mind. I thought, why can't I make my own beer? I'm a science guy, I get joy out of making good things. I'm gonna make my own beer!
So cool, plus I get to use my noggin and be creative! I recently made a stir plate from stuff around the house, harvested yeast from dregs, and created my own recipe!
    Great fun!

I am a professor of electrical engineering and have been for 16 years. Before that I did development work for Lockheed Martin in the area of electronic warfare.

I've been brewing for a little over a month and have my second batch in the fermentor as I write this. I got into homebrewing for a couple reasons (i) I thought it would be fun and I love beer and (ii) my youngest daughter is heading off to college in the fall to study biochemistry and I thought it would be a good experience for her and I to share. Now I'm hooked on this brewing hobby.

Like I needed another hobby! My other hobbies are playing guitar in a duo that plays out about once a month and building tube guitar amps from old decrepit Hammond organs that I get off Craig's List for virtually nothing. Good thing I already have tenure!!!

As far as family... one wonderful wife, two awesome daughters (one about to go off to college and one with one more year to go in college), and a dog.

It is nice to learn a bit more about the others on this forum... you all have been so helpful and supportive while I've asked tons of questions while getting started in brewing. Thanks to you all!!

My professional resume includes 30 years of coursework, research, and teaching in ecology and biogeochemistry.
My beer resume includes a couple blue ribbons in minor competitions and approximately 150 batches, with ~5% of the batches occurring between 1987 and 1993 and the rest occurring since 2005.

I run what I've often been told by others in the field is one of the finest cheese shops in North America. Prior to that, I was a chef/cook for over 15 years. I was also a middling engineering student for a bit earlier on.

I went to school for mechanical and electrical engineering and program, setup, and operate CNC machines. I've been doing this for about 10 years and am currently getting my bachelors in Business Administrstion so that I can eventually move up into corporate. I do a lot of R&D work as well but I do not work in R&D...maybe later this year though!

Graduated in 94 with a BS in Civil Engineering. Was huge into Microbrews at the time but too lazy to homebrew. Finally got the motivation a little over 3 years ago and deeply hooked on it now. I think about beer all day every day. I'm "that guy" that is constantly trying to turn people on to better beer. Constantly sharing commercial examples and homebrew with friends, co-workers, and family and trying to get them to expand their horizons.

I would love to be in the industry on any level but time is hard to come buy with a wife and a 9 year old and a 2 year old. Need to pay the bills and starting a new career would be daunting. However, I have been fortunate enough to help a very recognizable local brewery get permitted in their current facility and will be helping them with their recently announced expansion. Having expertise in wastewater and shit has finally paid off and helped me build relationships with some industry people. Who knows what the future will bring.

I have been drinking good beer for about the last year and 1/2. Was a big wine drinker for the past 25 years. Graduated from college, market was shit so I farmed cotton and soybeans for 8+ years until I met my wife, then got serious about my life. Have been in IT for the past 25 years. Worked for the great Enron until they crashed and burned and am now working for a large IT company, not sure what my title is but I specialized in highly available distributed systems. I have not started brewing yet, still collecting my gear and burning thru all the literature that makes me feel that I will never know enough, but my goal is to start within the next 2 months before my life goes to shit with another project. Love these forums.

    Cool thread.

I own and run a small heating and air conditioning company. I've been homebrewing since 1992 and have gone through several stages of intensity. I've built many different sets of equipment: a 5 gallon, 15 gallon, and even a full 1bbl system. Over the years I have brewed as much as twice a week, to as little as twice a year. I've been completely consumed with it and completely out of it. Right now I'm in my 'Sour Years'. I've set up a great sour pipeline with two Soleras and many other sour Saisons and fruited American Sour projects.

Other hobbies include traveling and cooking. From 2006-213 my wife and I competed on the BBQ Circuit as Lakeside Smokers, it was a great time! We got to cook around the country and meet some awesome people. But now I'm just as happy cooking at home for my friends and family. Although I do miss the trophies and cash prizes! :grinning:

    Cheers!

I'm a chemist for the state agency of transportation, so lots of looking at paint, cement and asphalt. Prior to that, worked in a couple of environmental labs doing mostly gas chromatography, and in the lab at a hazardous waste incinerator. I was trained as a geologist but my graduation coincided with an oil industry bust so I spent several years as a ski bum. There was a small environmental lab in town where I eventually ended up.

I started brewing on the stovetop in early 1987 and was all grain by August. I brewed only twice in all of 2015, but normally try to get in 6-10 batches a year. My setup is still pretty low tech, just the kitchen system enlarged and moved outdoors. I've been married for almost 14 years to a wonderful woman who loves good beer, even occasionally pressuring me to brew a batch of something she likes.
