I'm long on record as hating the 22oz format bottles. Thankfully, sales of said format are falling across the industry. Long live 12oz containers!!!!

I'm not a fan of bombers either, if a beer I want comes in 22 oz or 12 oz packages I ALWAYS go for the 12 oz. Sometimes I can only get a beer in bombers, and I begrudgingly do buy them. What I hate is when you see like a 15% beer in a 22 oz format or larger, sometimes I want to have a beer and not get wasted and I'm not always with friends to split a beer like that. One of the main reasons I pretty much avoid all Bruery beers...well that and they can be pretty hit or miss.

Its reason vs passion. Reason says never pay more than you have to. Passion says do what you want if it makes you feel better. Car makers know it, you can get around in a Honda Fit or in Corvette. Based on reason, zero Corvettes should be sold. But we are not robots, not yet. We can decide on a bomber if that's what we want to do. My recommendation, follow your passion when it comes to beer.

Bummer and all...but if the beer I want comes in big bottles I'm buying big bottles. Period.

It's not reason vs passion, it's that different people have different wants and needs (shocker). A lot of people who buy Corvettes track them. As states above, buying a single bomber is overall cheaper than a six pack. This is where the life hack article falls apart. If I would rather only drink 22 ounces of a beer, why should I be forced to buy 60, with some of it going to waste? If pure cost per ounce was the ONLY consideration, then everybody should be buying kegs, no?

Exactly. This is why I do buy bombers, because it's nice to not be stuck with an extra 4 bottles of something regardless of whether it's a good or bad beer. Ticking 101

My overall bomber consumption's probably decreased by at least 75% since Pretty Things bowed out of business. Their bomber-only format never caused me to look for a more economical option instead. I'm not alarmed or dismayed by the extra cents-per-oz the bomber format commands; whether craft beer comes in bombers or 750s or pounder cans or 12 oz bottles, it remains a luxury item.

For me it depends on the beer. For a lot of beers, I'd rather have the option of stopping at 12oz rather than continuing on for another 10, but sometimes I've had a nightcap type beer that was nice to sip at for an hour or so, and the extra time spent on drinking it allowed more flavors to come to the fore (FWIW, I've also had some that got worse as they warmed). The perfect world for me would be one in which everything came in 12oz and 22oz formats, and it was up to the consumer which one they felt like going home with.

A significant chunk of the beer I buy is in bomber formats but it's because I want the beer and it only comes in bombers. Special releases and BA stuff is very often bomber-only. The high abv bombers would be even more suited to 12oz containers so all we can do is wait and encourage the breweries that don't rely on bombers.

Sometimes a bomber can be a good way to try a new beer but when something like Enjoy By is available in both formats I'll go with the 6-pack because it is so much cheaper per oz and if it is a beer I know I'll enjoy drinking then I might as well get the 6-pack.

I'd never heard of it before. I just found the name amusing in it's unintentionally macabre way.

I know ,by the Time i realized the mistake I made it was to late to edit or delete the post. I was thinking about about AALs like Budweiser where you can buy 3 25 ounce can for $4.50 but a 6 pack costs $5.99 or more.

In a previous thread it was pointed out that Sierra Nevada big bottles are about the same or even a touch cheaper. Every other beer you can name in multiple formats is cheaper per ounce in smaller format than bomber/750

While the price is sometimes constrictive it is a great way to split a good beer that may be incredibly overpowering on the taste buds....Mirror Mirror for example. I split every beer with the little lady or friends when they show up for a jam session. What is TRULY price point pain is 11.2 oz bottles that are extremely expensive like Prairie or some Belgians. For these reasons I personally like bombers.

Good brew is for sharing and opening others eyes to great taste and a bomber is a great way to do that.

    Cheers

Oh yeah, I always knew that the unit price of bombers were way higher than 6 packs.

As more and more stores adopt a mix-six/buy-by-the-single philosophy, breweries aren't really gonna have a choice but to drop bombers. Unless it's barrel-aged, spontaneously fermented, or an otherwise resource intensive small batch, there's really not gonna be an excuse to charge so much per ounce going forward.
