I liked Risen the best, then probably the IPL. The Double Pacific Ale was interesting, and Another State of Kind grew on me. Probably liked the Seven Summits slightly more than those two (I rated it higher for sure).

I just has a glass on draught this past Friday- my first time with the beer. It was excellent; really pungent with tropical fruit and lemonade. I don't know which version I tried, but I could definitely see it being a regular thing (if it were available ).

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @utopiajane for guiding us on this week’s leg of our journey,

Today is rainy and gray in the Inland (Northwest) Empire. Fortunately, the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade was held yesterday, under drier skies. I did not take part in that unofficial official observance. Green beer and getting drunk by noon aren’t things I’m into these days (I’ve heard the "official" Irish pub downtown had a line of people standing outside at 7:30 AM - ugh!), so a flat of corned beef in the crock pot with some veggies and a bottle of non-nitro Guinness on the actual holiday will be enough, thank you very much!

It’s officially confirmed that the sender of my NBS BIF will be who I thought it was. I held off declaring so for a while because there are two more of us Washingtonians taking part, and I wondered if he was going to make some more geographically obvious hints just to make sure, but I had to yield to the evidence that it was someone whose name rhymes with “Ni0!” I’m thrilled to be getting some new Wisconsin beers (not that I’ve had a lot). I’ve never had anything from New Glarus, so that’d be a hell of a tick should that come to pass, plus the Midwest in general has a lot of great beer.

Speaking of that NBS BIF, I’m having a beer from a brewery that will be included in my box to my target (though not the exact beer – I received a list of beer styles s/he prefers, and this one isn’t on them), which is a Scottish style beer produced by a Belgian-inspired brewery located in northern Idaho, USA.

Reviewed beer # 1234 for me is really tasty. When I bought this, there was only one review up, and it wasn’t terribly complimentary. Since then someone put one up that liked it, and I gotta say I agree. It’s not as big and boozy as some Wee Heavies I’ve had, but it nails the style while staying more subtle than, say, a Skullsplitter or a Fat. Great stuff!

Hmm. Sorry I though you had tried that before. We may have just discussed the diacetyl issue. Anyway believe me I love the beer don't get me wrong. They had some production issues previously which were reconciled. Seems the last batch wasn't quite right (cans). @cavedave said there may have been a recall. Haven't heard but maybe that's the issue. And it's frustrating around here because it's brewed in my backyard but we still can never find it. Access is hit or miss.

Totally agree. Just bought 2 bottles on a whim just because I enjoy the hell out of Nelson. Had for the first time Friday and had similar thoughts. I was also killed by coriander by that beer. Too much for my palette.

Only had Captain's Daughter once, but I am very surprised to hear it has citra and mosaic. To me it was very earthy with a mushroomy/oniony flavor. I get the same flavor out of the Enjoy by series after they altered the recipie

Wiseacre out of Memphis just released an Alt in bottles. I've had one of theirs on draft before and it was very well made. I'm going home for Easter and would be happy to grab you a few bottles.

These old bones are loosening up a bit. Great lubrication, beer.

Commotion, by Great Raft in Louisiana, is not a beer I recommend. It is sort of a strange beer with a pungent aroma, and a taste that is overpowered by herbal bitter and pine that builds on palate.

Practiced congas for two hours, hope the neighbors don't mind that I am going for another two after this beer. JK, the neighbors can't really hear until I move outside in summer.

Hope you have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Happy NBS to all you BAs out there! Was a really nice day out there for the first day after Daylight Saving Time, getting a bit cloudy now but still a nice temperature. Brewed up an imperial hoppy red ale today with my buddy... should come out to 8.5% and over 100 IBUs. Used Warrior, Pacific Jade, Wakatu, Galaxy and Summer hops. Golden Promise malt base with a Crystal blend and a touch of black patent to get to about 18-19 SRM. Fermenting with White Labs Cali Ale Yeast right now!

    Time for a new beer!

Picked this one up last night (along with a bottle of Knob Creek Single Barrel Bourbon as an early-ish b-day present to myself!) and split the bottle.

Pours a beautiful bright pinkish reddish color with an everlasting ring of viscid bone-white foam. Cloudy appearance. Sits well in the glass. Surprisingly long-lasting foam for a tart beer.

Aaaaand tart it definitely is in the nose. Bright melange of red berries with an initial blast of farmhouse funk. Kind of "diapery" as we like to say with the big-time Brett heavy beers these days. Almost smells like a strawberry Pop Tart if I inhale deep enough; getting some of that pie crust they seem to imply will be there on the bottle ("inspiration is drawn from freshly baked berry pie").

Flavor is sticky, sweet berries sitting atop a biscuity, crackery malt base with lots of drying Brett funk. Lemony acidic notes cut through the swath of fruity, bright flavors.

Feel is rather thick at first though the tartness influences the way the carbonation sits on the palate. Transitions to being dry in the finish with a nice zip of finishing yeastiness. Refreshing and well-balanced medium-tart beer with qualities of both a fruit beer and a table saison.

Music pairing for this beer is Boris' Akuma no Uta album... garage rock-influenced heavy music from Japan (with a cover completely 100% "inspired" by Nick Drake!). Love this stuff. Alternates between droning and slow, fast and chaotic and rather plaintive/mellow here and there. Cool band.

Greetings NBS! My new beer for the day is The Crisp, a pilsner from Sixpoint. Pours a clear gold into a shaker pint glass, about a half inch of white head. Nose is hops, like an APA. Taste is a bit of citrus, pils malt, and a dry bitter finish. Crisp indeed. Cheers!

This beer is a blend of BBA Dark Apparition stout and Wood Ya Honey wheatwine

    review:
Pours black with a finger of light brown head and leaves nice lacing

Smells sweet and boozy with honey and caramel, a little spice

A lot going on in the taste. Honey is very noticeable Also some caramel, bourbon, chocolate, coffee and nuts.

A thick, viscous body with mild carbonation. Very warming.

I love bba dark apparition already and the honey sweetness from wood ya honey adds a real nice touch. Highly recommended. (4.88)

Kind of a lame contribution but just went to see what I had rated this beer and realized I actually hadn't reviewed it yet! I could have sworn I had it before this weekend but I guess I was wrong.
[IMG] (same pic as WBADYN...ima lazy fuck)

Sooo onto my review of City of the Sun brewed by Modern Times:

    4.26/5 rDev +1.4%
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.25

Pour is a hazy mango color with a good amount of carbonation and very little head. Aroma is grassy and lemony with big citrus and that hard to describe onion/dank smell. Taste is really great! Almost reminds me of a creamsicle on the first sip with vanilla and creamy citrus being dominant up front. The grass/pine notes linger on the tongue and make for an incredible aftertaste. It really goes down easy and I am almost done with it already after doing this review! Modern Times really knows their way around an IPA and this is another great example of that. Trying to think of a beer that it reminds me of and I would have to say it is like a toned down version of Enjoy By that has less pine and is more 'juicy'. No canning date but I think it's gotta be under a month old.

    Cheers!
