I was thinking the same thing. TG constantly refuses to attend certain beer festivals in IA because the festival organizers won't pay for the beer. Their twitter feed has been fairly consistent in explaining that and calling out festivals who expect breweries to donate beer.

I made my original post about expecting brewery's not bringing enough beer because I had no idea CCB had to purchase the beer. I made the assumption that they where bringing their beer to be enjoyed by everyone attending.
If it had been posted that certain beers where only to be available in limited quantities one could decide to stand in line or not for those beers.
Sorry for my old school thoughts just used to going to a music fest and if certain great entertainment is booked I have never seen a shorten performance.
Cheers, I had a good time thought it was well organized, just would like to see full disclosure in what to expect!

My only experience with big festivals is MBCP. They do timed taps throughout the event. Couple beers get huge lines. This year Hunahpu and Last Buffalo had crazy lines that started minimum 30 minutes before it was supposed to be tapped. People are gonna line up whether you tap a beer first thing or throughout the event. Whoever mentioned what Three Floyds does on DLD sounds like the best way for everyone to get a shot at big names.

Loved the fest. Sad to see all the negativity. Had a great time. I never expected to get to try everything I wanted, but I got to try a lot and definitely felt like it was worth it. As for the entry line, I was fairly annoyed until 11 when the line started moving. I got in line right at 10 and was around the corner in the parking lot. Pretty sure I had a beer in hand by 11:15 at the latest. Well run event with so much great beer.

I had a great time. The last Hunahpu Day I attended was 2012, but this seemed much better to me. We were way back in line to get in, but by 11:25 I was inside with beer in hand. Surprisingly the two longest lineshaminy I waited in were for a Cuban right around 4 and the the line to get bottles as a result of the Cuban line. My wife loved it and told me to get as many growlers of the pineapple upside down as I can in the future if they do it on a growler Tuesday.

i was a late arrival to huna day due in part to Cycle BA day and my brother and friend wanting to sleep all day. with that beign said, as soon as the line got to be rather big, i made the decision i did not wanna wait in line for a long time,s o we left for the fest at noon-ish and got there at 12:45. Little did i know how efficient the line would be (will remember this next year). Anyhow, Walked right in and got me a pour of endless nameless, then went and walked around and had some various beers from brewers that were still pouring. i was a little bummed,a nd i say that tongue in cheek, that many of the brewers had already sold out of the beer they brought, but that is my fault for showing up so late. at the end of the day, I did not need my full alottment of hunas, so i helped out some people to cut the cost of attending. in my opinion, the beer being poured that day is just the cherry on top of the whole week, since we are GUARANTEED bottles.

could anyone imagine how expensive Huna would be in distro? Look at the marketing ploys for BA big sound (50.00 for 2 snifters and 1 bottle). those complaining about anything should just remember that it's not always greener on the other side (no beerfest, beer goes into distro, or sells at brewery at 2-4 pp). it would shut out the thousands of folks that came down and spent their hard earned money on helping boom the tampa economy.

Next year, i will just plan accordingly to make sure my group wakes up early enough to get in, now that CCB has rectified the problem of entry into the fest.

Totally agree with this...In a perfect world I wished CCB offered a 8 bottle option with NO HD Attendance for 200 dollars..honestly attending a huge festival with big crowds, big lines..hot sun,etc is just not my thing these days

QFT. My favorite brewery of the day, and one that I drank a ton of all day. AB Summation and JBM were insane.

The line to get into the fest was long, but incredibly efficient, we were in almost instantly. By time we got to Side Project, Derivation was gone, but the Scribe, 2 Candles, etc more than made up for it.

    Loudspeaker announcements were clutch.

My only suggestion for next year is to put the 'most hyped' breweries in spaces that can accommodate a longer queue more easily.

This, along with your inside info on a non-existent new batch of DBH being the final whale to be tapped, is absolutely hilarious

Really did have a great time!
Then I woke up Sumday and someone stole an hour out of the day. I'm sure it was CCB fault!
Ha ha they did mess up. I want my hour back and more beer

Um they did,,,,, just not in the quantities you want. Buy the 4 or 8 bottle ticket and go to the Marriott after 1pm to pick it up the Huna and leave. You did not have to go to the festival.

This would only work if they didn't announce ahead of time what rare beers were going to be on tap. If people knew X brewery brought X whale, then people would just mill around until the rare beer was tapped.

I can only speak to my experience at Dark Lord Day...the primary focus for that event is the event itself, and the bottle share. People don't really care as much about the guest taps. Obviously, the Huna taps are usually better than DLD taps.....but people don't flip out about them. Taps are truly viewed as icing on the cake. Huna Day will probably always end up with people disappointed because they had their heart set on trying whatever rare beer was announced and missed out on it....and that's a shame.

Speaking of Dark Lord - if anyone wants to trade me some of their delicious Huna for DL, let me know! Both beers are delicious

Not all the "whales" were tapped at opening. All of CCB's hyped beers were tapped at random times during the festival, Side Project tapped D5 to start and 2 Candles later, 3 Sons replaced their stouts as they ran out, etc.

I really don't understand how anyone could complain about this festival unless you just don't like large (1000+ person) festivals period. It has the same issues (lines for hyped beers/breweries, most popular breweries running out of beer, etc.) that basically every other such festival does, only with a way higher overall quality and amount of beer. How many others have booth after booth of world-class beers with short to no lines basically all day?

First time Huna Day attendee from DC and I would definitely come back. I've been to some other big beer fests and I've never seen a line move that fast. I think they did a great job getting people into the beer fest. I can echo some other attendee comments about running out of beer. I definitely don't think there was enough beer. Around 1:30, the front side of tent B I think I saw only 2 breweries still pouring beer. I'm ok with the amount of whales folks brought, just kinda wish there were more core beers to replace the whales.

CCB did a nice job with keeping nothing but quality on their tap lines all day. I was lucky enough to try some really great CCB variants by recylcing through the line.

I thought the food was PERFECT! Perfect portions for a beer fest and plenty of variety. The tacos were on point!

Super happy I was able to get some bottles of Huna to take back with me!
