Can you put me on the beer scene? I'll be on the south side, but open to traveling up past SOCO.

I like Rainey Street. Craft Pride and Bangers both have good selections. I also really like Pinthouse Pizza and they have two locations now. ABGB is always a good stop as well.

As far as breweries go, Jester King, Austin Beerworks and Hops & Grain are my go to.

Draught House is a fine choice to add to that list.

My favorite is when Dos Equis would go up to $8 on a weekend night and all the craft was $4-$5. Yessssssss.

Though I just looked at the menu and see that Dos no longer fluctuates. Too bad. Cool place though and fun concept.

I'll second Trelvis on Banger's (especially for brunch) and Craft Pride (for a beer after brunch? It's just a few doors down), they're two of my favorite spots; as well as Pint House and Austin Beer Garden Brewing. Black Star Co-Op near the Pint House on Burnet is OK too, but both of those are pretty far.

The Whip In/Kamala Brewing is good for their own beers, and they've got a decent selection of bottles as well (22 cooler doors full, but only 4 of those are local and regional).

    Other favorites:
Mean Eyed Cat (just a cool place to hang)
The White Horse (watching the dancers can be very entertaining)
Michi Ramen (if you love ramen, it also has a surprising beer selection, it's listed on BA, and it's right near Saxon Pub if you're going)

    Don't bother with IMHO:
    Barley Swine
    Black Sheep Lodge
    24 Diner
    Gourdough's (unless you love doughnuts)

Will agree on Black Sheep Lodge, it's a pain in the ass to park there. Also, their patio makes me feel like I'm gonna die. In lieu, go to their sister Haymaker. They have a HUGE beer selection. My only gripe, I get there too late to try certain beers. Two times in a row now.

The Michi Ramen location on South Lamar (near Saxon Pub) is take out only. If you go there hoping for beer, you are gonna have a bad time. The location on North Lamar does have great taps.

They are probably thinking of Ramen Tatsuya's location on Lamar.

NM. I didn't realize they had a S. Lamar location. I don't go south of the river very often. :grinning:

There is a Ramen Tatsu-ya on South Lamar right next to the Saxon Pub. I love me some Ramen Tatsu-ya, even more than Michi Ramen, but nobody would ever consider the beer selection at either Ramen Tatsu-ya location to be great. You can get a can of ABW Peacemaker, maybe a pint of Live Oak Big Bark amber.

The Michi Ramen location on North Lamar has about 8 taps and they are always diverse and almost always a great seasonal available (Sputnik, Einhorn, Primus, etc...).

Please see my above comment. I've never had Tatsu-Ya, only Michi. Being a loyalist can be somewhat difficult but not really. :grinning:

I'm in Austin on a work trip tonight. I've got dinner plans, but am hoping to find somewhere to buy some quality Texas beers to take back to Minnesota with me. Where's the best place to stop either near the capital or convention center?

Downtown? Probably the Whole Foods is your best bet. If you are willing to uber or drive a tiny bit, then WhichCraft or East 1st Grocery would be options.

Thanks man! I've got a car and might have to hit up WhichCraft or East 1st Grocery once my meetings wrap for the day. Anything special releases I should be on the lookout for?
