My first go around with this scotch ale. Canned 02-14-16.

L-The pour is a reddish brown with a sizeable 2 finger off white head. Lacing is made up of big foamy islands around the glass. The head recedes to a thin film which thickens at the edges of the glass.
S- The nose is very typical of a scotch ale. There are notes of caramel, toffee, and a touch of vanilla.
T- The taste follows the nose with the caramel malts and toffee. There is minimal bitterness. Alcohol is hidden well. Very much a one note brew.
F- Despite the large head, the carbonation is pretty minimal. The beer feels a little light for the style.
O- The mouthfeel kind of let me down. I wanted a little more substance. There are better options available, although the beer is certainly drinkable.

Picked this monster up a couple of months ago. Pour is jet black with little carbonation. Smell is much like many of the strong BA Bruery ales (Black Tuesday, Grey Monday). Lots of bourbon, vanilla, malts, nutty, chocolate. Just wow. Aroma fills the room it's so strong. Definitely the best part of the beer (smell got a 5 from me). Taste follows the nose - complex mixture of chocolate, sweetness, bourbon, alcohol heat, licorice, hazelnut. At 17% ABV, it's strong. The alcohol isn't hidden, but it's very pleasant. Mouthfeel is very nice - thick and juicy. Overall a fantastic beer!

I have a can in the fridge and I can say if it was that good I would have grabbed that sucker by now. One thing I do remember about drinking that is as you said it gets better as it warms. For sure not a fridge temp drinker.

A- Black with a two finger light tan head

S- Roasted peanuts and cocoa/milk chocolate, not much else, but pleasant.

T- Delivers on the description. Peanut butter and chocolate, some roasted malts. Good balanced between sweet and roasted flavors, not any real bitterness.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- This is Sweet Bady Jesus kicked up to 9% and I'm not complaining. If you enjoy SBJ, this is a most have.

Yet another fridge find! (Well, I knew it was there for 5 months now.)

Vigorous pour yields a nice one inch head which fades after a few minutes to a thin ring. Nose of berries and dates, but at first it smelt of prunes. Nice flavor of more berries, tart berries and the dates are there as well. Very interesting indeed! Medium mouthfeel. Overall, my first WW and I want to try more!

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @cavedave for getting us started today. I kegged my Centennial/Amarillo brown ale this morning, after being lazy and leaving it in there for 4 weeks. It was crystal clear except for a few bits of yeast at the end. Doubt I'll use gelatin. Everything was identical to the first time I brewed it in summer 2014; except it came in .01 points of gravity lower, the OG was the same. So it is 6% instead of 5.9% ABV. Tastes exactly the same pre-carbonation. I did the water chemistry the same as I remember doing. I ended up killing 2 kegs last week, so now I need to make something else; and I still have 3 cases of empty bottles staring at me too. Need to get busy.

Also, last Wednesday was the 5th anniversary of my first extract batch that tasted like old extract and tangy shit. :grinning: Mr. Beer was cool for one batch, before I got a full 5 gallon bucket kit the next week; and I just pulled the brown ale out of that same first bucket today. Went All grain a year later, and started adjusted water 5-6 months after that. Zero infections ever (if you don't count the few spotty infected bottles I had from not cleaning them good enough). Ever since I started bottling with star san I haven't had a problem. It's a bit more messy with the bottle vinator, since it foams up all over the place. Still not sure if I will enter the summer competition this year, sometimes its more fun to brew and share with friends.

New beers, dipping into some of that BIF:

If Evil Twin didn't make Geyser Gose with Two Roads, this would have been my first official CT beer. That being said, this is a damn good BSPA. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, orange, banana, pear, apricot, apple, white grape, peppercorn, clove, and light bubblegum yeast; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuity malt; herbal/grassy hop and yeasty earthiness. Moderate herbal bitterness and peppery spiciness on the finish; medium-full bodied with balanced grainy creaminess and stickiness in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing dryness on the finish from bitter/spicy notes. Very drinkable with a lightly warming finish. Just all around really impressed. Well balanced on the malt with great yeast complexity; and still being nice and fairly dry on the finish for being a bit heavier than I expected. Delicious. 4
    [IMG]

Really nice BA barleywine! This is a bourbon and cognac blend(mostly cognac forward, after my assessment), so I can understand the mixed reviews(I think people assumed it was just bourbon?). Aromas and flavors of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread malts; with balanced raisin, plum, fig, pear, melon, apple, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hop/cognac fruitiness; with vanilla, oak, and light bourbon on the finish. Light-moderate pine bitterness and oak spiciness; with a medium-full bodied creamy/lightly slick mouthfeel; with some balancing hop/oak stickiness as well. Light increasing dryness from sticky hop oils after the finish. Zero cloying sweetness and only lightly warming after the finish. As I said above, this is massive on Cognac fruitiness of apples/melons/pears etc; so I can see the mixed reviews. I will be buying more than I already have, it will be around a while like the Scallywagger was. 3.9
    [IMG]

Very few reviews on this one. WOW!!! This is dank and juicy as hell. Aromas and flavors of huge peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, guava, mango, melon, berry, tangerine, grapefruit, lemon zest, and light pepper/pine hops; with light touches of honey/cracker/bready malt; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/pine/spicy bitterness; with a super smooth finish; lightly grainy and sticky in the mouthfeel. Moderate dryness with zero astringency. As I said before, this is pretty much pure juicy dank flavors going on; light malt for support and really not all that bitter either. Definitely insane Mosaic hops going on here with a couple others. Amazing. 4.32

A second NBS entry is a double bock that is new to me.

    look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

L- An aggressive pour leads to a 2 finger egg shell head. The beer itself is very light for the style looking more like a red ale than a double bock. Lacing is sparse and fleeting.
S- The nose is typical double bock. Caramel malt and dark fruit abound.
T- The beer balances the malts with a light hop bitterness. Dark fruits are present in the beginning finishing with a light alchohol burn. Maybe a little more alcohol than I would like.
F-The carbonation is prickly and the overall mouthfeel is medium despite this.
O- This is a solid if unspectacular version of a double bock. Nothing stands out particularly, although I would drink it again if better options were not available.

I didn't realize that NEBCO canned 668. I enjoyed it on draft quite a bit. I wouldn't mind if it made it's way to Vermont. Or any of their other beers for that matter.

Barley Mow is a fairly new brewery out of Largo, FL. 12oz can. The aroma and taste are both dominated by bittersweet chocolate notes and some roasted coffee flavors. The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Overall, Maven is a solid milk stout with a nice body and good dose of chocolate.

Viscous pour, black and heavy. Dark khaki and cocoa head. Heavy on the lace as the rich head slowly dies down. A thick film remains over the body. 5

Charred oak, bourbon spice, chocolate, vanilla, hints of licorice and roast. 4.25

Starts off with a lot of molasses and brown sugar, yeasty chocolate, spicy bourbon and faint, faint soy sauce. There's a nutty, coffee with milk finish that's closes things on an upswing. 4

Sugary sweet in the feel initially with a medium body that comes across like a syrup almost. Yeasty, oaken, spicy and a touch hot mid-palate. A sticky feel lingers in my mouth with gentle roast and sweetness. 4

For an unknown brewery, this is an impressive barrel-aged beer.

Bottled on 2/26/2016. 12oz bottle poured into a snifter. The aroma is fantastic, at first whiff I get a lot of the citrusy hops, but I'm also picking up a dose of fresh grainy malt. The taste again is a balance more heavily on the hop side with the hops creating a lingering bitterness on top of a nice malt backbone that is balanced nicely with the hops. Overall, this is a really nice IPA that I enjoyed.

12oz can poured into a snifter. I am a huge fan of coconut porters/stouts so I have been looking forward to trying this for a while. The aroma lives up to it's name with a ton of coconut and chocolate. The taste is solid as well with a nice roasted malt backbone along with chocolate, coconut, and a lingering sweetness.

Well, I've been vacationing with the wife in Washington State since Thursday morning, 3 days in Seattle and we came to Port Angeles this afternoon. I've had at least one new beer a day on this trip, so its more like New Beer Week for me. I had two new ones today. First up was a saison/farmhouse ale called Hope from Mollusk Brewery

and the second is the Panter Lake Porter from Silver City
