Instead of a SN appreciation thread... how about a "how can you like craft beer but NOT like SN" thread?

OK, maybe if you don't like them... I'd propose that a lack of at the least appreciation for SN suggests a lack of appreciation for what craft beer is and has become.

Can get six packs for $6.99 at Total Wine. No other good craft beer is that cheap here. It's all quality stuff too.
Also, a nearby liquor store still has some cases of Bigfoot in there. That's some good stuff.
Not to mention, I can get a sixer of SNPA from the gas station right down the street in the middle of the night of I run out of beer (by far the best beer they sell there.)

Sierra Nevada is great, especially for the price. I got into craft beer last fall and was able to try their Tumbler for the first time this year, it was yet another one of their many high quality beers. Their wide variety (without a lack of quality) is one of the reasons why I respect them so much as a brewery.

Just cracked an Imperial Pils from the Beer Camp pack. Very nicely done indeed. Sierra Nevada can do pretty much no wrong in my book.

Celebration and Bigfoot, perhaps my two favorites of their individual styles. Really appreciate the consistency with S.N.

Sierra Nevada is the Beatles of craft beer. They were there at the beginning, they showed how it's done, they influenced pretty much everybody who came after, and in most things they've done, they've done it about as well as you can do it. Of course, other people came along later and were the Led Zeppelin of craft beer, or the Stones, or Nirvana or whoever, and there's going to be people who prefer that stuff. That's as it should be. Change is good. But a lot of what we take for granted about American craft beer exists because of SN and if you take them for granted it's your loss.

(Which isn't meant to say SN has been left behind, or that their glory days are in the past. True, they're not as experimental as some smaller breweries, and they probably can't afford to be at this point. But they've expanded into belgians, wild ales, RIPAs and some other newer styles, so it's not like they're resting on their achievements, either.)

I'm a big fan of Sierra Nevada, I think they are one of the best breweries out there. The 30th anniversary stout ranks up at the top of my all time favorites, I can't wait to try the Narwhal Imperial Stout.

I totally respect SN. The Harvest variations are probably my favorites but I generally like everything they make except Kellerweis (I'm a big Hefeweizen fan but this just doesn't get it). Add me to the list of those who miss ESB even though it wasn't an authentic ESB.

hahaha you're right! I've been working late and getting up early most of this week…I'm going to make up for that this weekend though!

Sierra Nevada is most definitely my favorite brewery…everything they brew is top notch delicious. I could rant and rave all night about SN as most of you know! I'll spare you until next month when someone starts up another thread like this as they are being blown away by another Torpedo followed by a Hoptimum, then on to a Bigfoot…mmmmm time for me to pop open something! I want to move to Chico, CA and fill my growler daily! Cheers ~

Unless I missed it, no mention of Glissade yet. I enjoyed that brew a lot for the 2 consecutive springs (as far as I remember) it was released. I coupled it with Anchor Steam once, one after the other, and they coupled nicely.

No other brewery controls more of my fridge space on a consistent basis.

Beers of theirs that should blow your socks off:

    Bigfoot
    Barrel Aged Bigfoot
    Anniversary Grand Cru
    Ovila Quad
    Hoptimum

Should ALMOST blow your socks off: the new beer camp Oatmeal Stout. A couple words to describe everything else they brew: solid, consistent. Much love.

I appreciate SN's porter and stout - both are delicious and perfect examples of their style.

Props to Sierra Nevada, and props to this thread. A lot of talk is dedicated towards whales or the new 'Vanilla Chocolate Barrel Aged Imperial Porter', yet Sierra Nevada puts out beers that can hang with any other in their category. For the first couple years I was drinking craft beer I always overlooked their stuff, but when I had SNPA I loved it. I find virtually no faults in it, and is now my go to beer and I buy more than anything. During the winter I buy the shit out of Celebration Ale, easily one of my top 5 IPAs. I'm not a fan of Brown Ales, yet I became a fan of Tumbler after I tried it. The greatest thing is they make some of the best beers out there and get away with some of the cheapest prices.

Love me some Sierra Nevada! Thier everyday line up is probably the best in the craft world, my favorite of the limited releases is the Dogfish collab life and limb( i can't get enough ).

Like many here, I owe a lot of my love for craft to good early experiences with awesome SN brews. Not only do they make great affordable beers in a variety of styles, they are also a great example of a brewery that does a lot for their environment - when I took the tour I found out that they produce ~90% of the energy they need on-site using solar panels, use rail when possible for shipping, recycle spent grain to local cattle farms (which they use to make a fantastic burger at the pub,) and much more. You get the sense that they are very thoughtful and don't jump on trends, but they experiment enough to keep things fresh. As a homebrewer, their beer also taught me the importance of using good water; SN Pale Ale & Torpedo were the first beers where I could actually taste the mineral quality of the water and how that contributed to the overall profile. I will always be a huge fan, prost!

Never been disappointed with Sierra Nevada. I think they brew the greatest pale ale on planet earth. And the Torpedo is one of my favorites.

I almost take their consistency in excellence for granted, but whenever I'm out, and the restaurant lists Sierra Nevada as a choice amongst many others, I almost always grab one as my beer of choice. I'm never let down.
(as I'm sitting down sipping on their Tumbler Autumn Brown right now....)
