Is Nelson only available in the 22oz bottles (I think it was a 22ozer I had) or also in 12oz 6 packs like Duet, Hoppy B-day and Pure Hoppiness I see everywhere?

Also is it a lot less quantity produced/distributed than the others I mentioned? Its very scarce/non-existent in mid-atlantic from what I can tell.

I originally posted this on the Mid-Atlantic board, but was getting little feedback, so thought to try my luck on the big forum board.

Never seen Nelson 6-pack, only 22oz.

Northern California based answer: it is bit more difficult to find than the other ones, but can't tell if it's a more limited distribution or perhaps heightened demand. Still, it can be found here if you're willing to hit up a few places.

I've regretted every Alpine 22 I've bought recently. Why would you want six 12oz of that mediocrity?

Huh, drinking this now! I've only seen it in two places here in KC. One sold out of their case in a couple weeks. The other had two cases when I went yesterday.

I have only seen it in the 22oz format as well.

Everyone has their thing. Besides, wouldn't having 12oz of mediocrity be better than 22oz?

It also appears that the bottles that previously said Green Flash on them now say Alpine.

I'm jaded because Nelson used to be one of my favorite beers. Now, it's one I still buy like an idiot hoping it'll be good again.

Theres Alpine on the shelf here, and not a clue to how old it is so I won't buy it. It's going to go the way of most CA IPAs here, they'll just die on the shelf. There's great local options and they stamp their Can or bottling date, so easy.

Since Nelson has been bottled at Green Flash (started in September or so), they have been using a best by date that is 6 months out. I'd be surprised if you are seeing bottles without such date however it's certainly possible that the machine misses a few bottles here and there.

Edit: to be clear, I'd be surprised if you were seeing bottles without best by dates meaning the pre Green Flash bottles that were not distributed outside of California.

On the Mandarin crap yes I agree. But not on the Nelson. The bottles I had were excellent and one of the best I've had recently . JMO

My issue is not with the quality of the products but the value. The beer itself isn't bad but nowhere on Earth is Pure Hoppiness, Hoppy Birthday or Duet worth $15-18 a six pack, IMO. You are paying for the brand name and you can get better beer made locally (anywhere in the country at this point) for almost half that price point.

I can find Nelson bombers (and most other Alpine/GreenFlash) around me.

I have never had a non-greenflash/original alpine Nelson, Most people that bash them now have had the original Alpine beers which seems to be mostly Californian beer snobs :stuck_out_tongue: joking of course.

Are you kidding? If not, then I suggest you give it another shot. Just had the fresh batch of 22 Oz that hit CT, and it is VERY close to the beer I used to trade for back in 2011. Very close.

Could not agree more. This batch is on point! Tastes as good as I remember trading for back several years ago. If this batch was in six packs it's worth 15 us for sure. Just an awesome beer.

I feel deceived. Alpine makes its way to NM may months back. Nelson was plentiful for about 4 weeks. Haven't seen it since. I have seen pure hoppiness and hoppy birthday in various formats, along with keg pours etc... of the mediocre stuff.

Not all alpine is rated the same IMHO. I now pass on all of it.

When I say months, I want to say a good 4 months since any Nelson sighting. Oh well. Been dropping wads of cash on local Bosque and LA cumbre ipas.

Price pt on Nelson was good too. I'd spend money instantly if it were somewhat available

I think the beer is excellent, especially Hoppy Birthday. Since I'm in Indiana I get the post-green flash bottles.

If you have a store that does singles, get two singles. But that expensive of a sixer of a West coaster isn't worth it. Most IPAs I'm general wouldn't be

Yup. I got a growler from GF this weekend and it's still missing that intense dry hop. I don't know what happened. They also need to stop filtering it. That's definitely taking away from the hop aroma and mouthfeel.

    Also not in six packs.

Nelson in 6 packs would be legendary.

I saw a six pack of it this past weekend. Quality control seems to be a problem with Alpine/GF as sometimes it's pretty damn good, other times just a bitter bomb.
