Hey its good you mention it and I'll ask then, what's the protocol to start the WBAYDN thread? Is anyone 'entitled' or just volunteer ? I know they usually start around 7am EST. I never dared starting one... cheers

Happy Saturday. Voodoo bottle release a little later this morning. Looking forward to seeing/meeting some BAs and the good weather bestowed upon us. Down the hatch. Thanks to Dean in ABQ for this stout.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! I ended up wide awake at 4 AM, so I did some bike training while watching the Spongebob movie on Netflix. :grinning: I will probably be working on a beer recipe today, I need to brew something to fill the empty keg I have right now. I kegged a Centennial/Amarillo American brown ale last weekend. I was thinking either a Coffee Stout, ESB, or Vienna lager. A bit all over the map there, but I will probably change my mind again as the day progresses.

The new Abbey recipe is fantastic. Flavors of big raisin, plum, fig, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, light chocolate, pepper, clove, and light banana/bubblegum; with some light-moderate herbal/floral hops and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal bitterness and yeast spiciness on the finish; with a great creamy/bready medium body; with light sticky/chalky roast and hop notes in the mouthfeel. A bit drying. Definitely way more rich and complex on the malt flavors; bit still has a nice balance with the fruity/spicy yeast notes. I was more impressed by both new recipes(Trippel also), but this was by a larger margin.

Excellent DIPA. Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, papaya, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, and pine hops; with light-moderate cracker/bready/light honey malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/rind/spicy bitterness; with a medium bodied sticky/resinous mouthfeel with a fair amount of grainy creaminess. Moderate increasing dryness with zero hop astringency. Quite lighter feeling on the malts than I expected, and very bright/dank on hops. Very drinkable for the ABV. They used Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, and Southern Cross hops; and you really can’t go wrong with a combo like that.

Still tasting incredible. Flavors of huge nutty dark roasted coffee; with chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted bread, vanilla, cream, bourbon, oak, and light dark fruits. Light-moderate bourbon/oak spice and roasted coffee bitterness; nice balanced bitter/sweet finish with a fairly full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel; touch of sticky/chalky coffee notes as well. Warming finish but minimal booziness, smooth sipping stuff. The coffee character in this beer is absolutely enormous. Everything is incredibly well balanced and not overly barrel heavy. I still have 2 more left, it lingered on the shelf for quite a while so I kept grabbing them. Hope they make it again this year.

Cellar grab for the day, last 2012. Just passed it's 4 year mark a month ago(2/28/12). Nearly been in my apartment as long as I have(Sept 2011 :stuck_out_tongue:). Quite a lot of imperial stout protein goop on this pour, but still tasting incredible. Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, vanilla, cream, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, and light smoke/char; with hints of licorice and dark fruits. Bittersweet balanced full bodied finish; light carb. Creamy/silky and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel; minimal warming ABV. Some light-moderate roasted dryness after the finish. Pretty much perfectly balanced between barrel and roast malt complexity. Amazing as expected. This is probably my official longest self cellared beer at this point. I got it right at release, most of my other older vintages of other beers were store gem finds.

    Cheers

Good morning BAs! Another overcast day here in NW PA. Breakfast beer today is my home-brewed coffee stout. This stuff gives Red Bull competition - don't drink within five hours of attempted sleep!
