Not a bad IPA. I'll take a Ranger or Rampant over this, but it was refreshing to have outside during the egg hunt with the kiddies. Happy Easter BA! Salud

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again(med-weekend for me still). Hope everyone has had a good holiday with their families today. Thanks @utopiajane for getting us started off once again. Going to be a slow week at work, a lot of people are taking the week off, so I will just be doing a project that got assigned to me last week. New beers today:

Still working away at my BIF from @tasterschoice62. Bottled on 2/18. This is INSANE. Aromas and flavors of huge pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey/lightly toasted bread malt sweetness; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Medium sized pine/rind/spicy bitterness; with a smooth and sticky/resious mouthfeel, with a fair amount of bready creaminess in there as well. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness with zero hop astringency. Straight up dank and juicy all over the place. WOW, mind blowing stuff. 4.47
    [IMG]

This is really nice stuff. Wrong style listing, this is a sour mashed American pale ale, not a wild ale... Aromas and flavors of tart lemon, lime, pineapple, grapefruit, peach, pear, orange peel, and pine; with light-moderate grainy cracker/bready malt; with herbal/floral/grassy hop and English yeast earthiness. Light-moderate pine/grassy bitterness and fruity/acidic tartness on the finish; very smooth/crisp, balanced hop stickiness and acidity in the mouthfeel; with a touch of grainy creaminess. Light-medium bodied with good dryness from the bitter/acidic finish. There is no real instance of any wild ale complexity going on here. The usual citrus/piney/earthy hops similar to their IPA, with classic fruity Lagunitas house yeast going on. Dryer feeling and lighter on the malt presence. Very tasty, would get some more of this as for sure. Glad it is year round! 3.9
    [IMG]

1.5 Years old, 9/23/2014 bottling. This is absolutely amazing. Aromas and flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, toffee, caramel, fudge, bourbon, toasted oak, molasses, light licorice/dark fruit, and light touches of smoke/charred grain. Bittersweet balanced finish; with a creamy/silky full-ish body; with some light sticky/chalky roasted dryness on the finish. Low pleasant warmth of alcohol on the finish, with absolutely zero booziness. Just all around fantastic stuff. Not overly barrel heavy, spot on balance between barrel complexity and dark/roasty malts. Not nearly as heavy on body as I expected, but it also makes this one dangerously smooth for a 14.5% Russian Imperial stout. Glad I got the chance to try this one! 4.35

Cheers, have a good night NBS

NBS beer #3 and the last one for tonight as I have to fast for 12 hours for blood work tomorrow. This Porter is quite popular and can be hard to find around these parts as it disappears quickly. I finally stumbled upon it this week.

    Death By Coconut

    Oskar Blues Grill & Brew
    English Porter / 6.50% ABV

    4.06/5 rDev -2.2% | Avg: 4.15
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

    canned 12/14/15

L-Pours black with only the slightest light making its way through. The head is tan and approximately 2 fingers high. The head recedes to a thin film with some very spotty lacing.
S- The nose lives up to it's name with coconut in spades. The coconut is so pervasive that it's hard to pick up the roasted qualities of the porter.
T-The taste is initially some bittersweet chocolate, but it is quickly replaced by the coconut. This is easily the strongest display of coconut in a beer that I've ever had. The coconut is strong enough to take away much of the bitterness derived from the roasted malt or hops. This could be interpreted as either good or bad depending on what you are looking for in a beer. I might like it better with a little more bitterness and slightly toned down coconut.
F-The mouthfeel is medium with light carbonation. The dry finish also helps here.
O-This is easily the best exhibition of coconut in a beer I've had. Probably a little more than I personally like. Still if your a big fan of coconut, you will like this beer.

Sort of. My shift was split into about 4 segments today, so I wasn't technically working, but I sorta was.

Loved the Temptation and found Supplication right up there in overall appeal. Supplication was way more intense taste-wise yet seemed rather subdued in the aroma. Temptation seemed more rounded overall.

All I know is if I come across these offerings again I'll be more than happy to enjoy and savor once again...

I was in the area for today, so I stopped by Great Notion Brewing. I'd heard some good things about them from this forum and I'm always up for trying beer from a new brewery. Both the IPAs on tap at the moment- Juice Box and Juice Jr.- are clearly versions of the sort of citrusy, hazy NE IPAs that are so in vogue right now. I haven't had the chance to try any of the OG NE IPAs so I can't compare these beers to Tree House and the like; my closest point of reference are a couple of beers from Claim 52 and Block 15 that took a shot at the same thing. Since Juice Jr. is just a lower-ABV version of Juice Box, I'm just focusing on the latter.

As per the standard for these beers, Juice Box looks great, with a very mimosa-esque color, which I suppose makes it an appropriate beer for an Easter afternoon. The smell is all citrus, and the taste follows suit with a nice hop bite at the end. Juice Jr. had a good deal less hop bitterness, which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on your preferences. I myself preferred Juice Box, as I still want my IPAs to have a certain amount of bitterness; I'm an Oregonian, after all. Regardless, both of these beers- and the coffee maple stout which I don't have a picture of- were wonderful.

I took a crowler of Juice Box home, and I hope to see them on tap in Eugene sometime soon- I'm sure people in town will at least appreciate the Ken Kesey reference if not the beer. I look forward to see what they do next; they had several sours aging in barrels in the brewpub, and I'll have to come back when they're ready. Way to go, Great Notion!

Honestly, it was kind of a letdown. It doesn't have a lot of flavor. Some cocoa, but not much else.

What a long weekend of work for me. 12 hour shifts have their benefit but make for a long 3 days. I came home and knew I would only have 1 beer but it had to be a strong one. Went with Fort from DFH. Bottled 10/23/15 poured into a tulip.
Looks like a muddled reddish brown, small 1 finger head.
Smell is jammy raspberries and nail polish remover.
Taste is mostly raspberry, more nail polish remover, rotten fruit. My wife said it tastes like a bad wine. I get that aspect. Some heat is present too.
Medium mouthfeel, some bubbles help carry the taste from start to finish.
Not sure how I feel about this one. It has good and bad qualities. Hoping some time will do good things for my next bottle.

    Thank you strohme2 for this
12 oz bottle, dated 2/8/16, poured into a teku

A- A clear golden straw color with a two finger white head.

S- Fruity, tropical fruits, citrus, hints of berries, faint wet grass, some pine.

T- Citrus and tropical with a nice piney bitterness, getting notes of pineapple and grapefruit mixed with hints of peach a very mild wet grass quality.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- A great DIPA, flavors are well balanced. Easy to drink. This is my first time trying anything from Short's and I really enjoy it.
