Twenty-five years ago, in 1991, my father, Jean-Pierre Van Roy released a special Gueuze in response to a demand from the Province of Brabant.
    The "Brabantiae" was born.
It was a Lambic matured in fresh Port barrels and refermented in bottles.
To end this brewing season 2015/2016, we bought 50 Port barrels from 500 liters, freshly emptied.
If everything goes as expected, after 2 years of maturation in these barrels and 1 year of secondary fermentation in the bottles, a new "Brabantiae" will be launched in 2019, 28 years after the first one !

Another thing I'd love to have, but I know will never come to fruition.

25,000 liter capacity inside those port barrels. That will be a pretty good amount of bottles.

And also, this has to be one of the earliest Beer Release threads in the history of BA, since it's not going to be ready until 2019.

If there are 64 hads of the stuff from '91, I'm sure there will be plenty for release this time.

More than 8,000 750s or 16,000 375s if my math is correct.

I hope "freshly emptied" means drank. If so, I wonder who had the pleasure of emptying the 500 liters.

Based on the stories of his legendary drinking, I bet it was Jean-Pierre himself.

For the rest of us, sure, but for those with the means, it'll be humble brag #1.

Luckily it isn't. 25.000 liters so must be more than 25.000 75cl bottles.
Around 33.000 75cl bottles, given the angel's always seem to take their share.

Now let's play the waiting game...

2 barrels leaked already to have, so they already lost 1000L of lambic... 3 other are leaking as well...

Jean told me. No worries, there's still enough. But losing 1000l of lambic is something one may complain about
