Like Clevelanders waiting for good surf on Lake Erie, you've patiently awaited Chillwave Double IPA's release. Your memories of Chillwave's tropical fruit aromas and flavors and sweet honey malt balance kept you afloat through winter's icy grip. The wait is finally over, and Chillwave is poised to crash into all of our markets starting April 4. Read on for full release details and a preview of our new label.

    ON THE BOTTLE:
Illustrator Darren Booth incorporated references to the incredible story of Great Lakes surfers, the dedicated (and occasionally chilly) crew that inspired our Double IPA. Peek through the barrel of the wave and you'll see Cleveland's skyline, proving that you can surf in Cleveland, along with wetsuit material and a surfboard adorned with whole hops. Visit Chillwave's beer page and click View Label Details for a closer look.

    IN THE BOTTLE:
Flavor: Earthy, tropical Mosaic hops ride frontside here, followed by a deft cutback of sweet honey malt
    ABV: 9.0%
    IBU: 80
Pairs With: Grilled lamb, sweet desserts, and dawn patrol
    Packages: 4-Pack, Draft

Brewpub Tapping: Thursday, March 31 at 11:30AM
GLBC Gift Shop Bottle Sales: Friday, April 1 at 5PM

Got to love those distributors who "jump the gun" and release product before they are told to by the brewery

Me too, last year I let one sit in my fridge for a while. Big mistake. It was not nearly as good. Learned my lesson about DIPAs with that one.

Interesting. This hit in Northern Virginia last Thursday or Friday. Having noted that, I'm not sure why the brewery would delay the release of a beer that is better served fresh.

I don't pretend to know enough about the distribution game to understand what kind of instructions are provided to the distributors.

As someone who works in the industry, most breweries are pretty clear on release dates for seasonals, especially if they want it to be a big, exciting event. My guess is that GLBC may have forgotten to label their palettes.

All things aside, I am so excited for this release. Such an underrated beer.

Agree 100%. One of my favorite IIPA releases of the year.

I agree, I can't wait to have this one again. I've actually been trying to clear out some space in my fridge for a 4 pack. But I am also wondering why they would delay the release at all, why not put it out as soon as possible, so it's even more fresh?

As already mentioned it hit the shops around metro Detroit yesterday. I had to refrain from buying a case and was successful, at least for now...

    Still my favorite IIPA.

Some distributors are known for not following beer release instructions from the brewery, so it is not GLBC fault that some release it a few days sooner than they are supposed to and as instructed, to try and make a splash.....a few days on this beer release one way or the other is not going to make much discernible difference in the freshness aspect

It may just be me, but Chillwave has lost its charm to me. Still great, but not where it was.

I'll have to give it another shot. I didn't care for it last year. Changes in my palette I guess. :slight_frown:

I picked up a 4-pack tonight and mentioned that it seemed like they got it early and the beer guy admitted that his distributor got it to him early.

I'm not complaining though - the sooner the better!!! Has a best by date of 6/13/16 on the bottle - if memory serves me right they put 90 days on these so about 2- 2 1/2 weeks old.

Just poured one and I must confess it drinks just as good as I remember 10 months ago. Probably gonna buy a case worth of this stuff before it's over....this beer is truly a Midwest DIPA - not as piney and dank as a West-Coaster, not as bright and fruity as an East-Coaster, but just a nice strong balance of hops and malt. Same reason my go to IPA is Two-Hearted.........
