Received several new hocks recently. A couple from my New Beer Sunday BIF box. Obviously @lateralusbeer did some good detective work. A great beer to wake up to. Crisp citrus and floral. Sweet malts. Spicy Noble hops. Smells and tastesa lot like a Helles to me.

Hope everyone enjoys a good beer today regardless of the style, but if you do have a nice bock, make sure you whip it out and take a picture of it. Thanks again to @LeperJim for all of the work on the promotional items. Also, no Jim. I certainly did not forget to stop at the store and get the prize beers last night to watch Kathleen Madigan. :flushed:

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! If everything goes according to plan, I should have a new car by the end of the day. Going to get my old car appraised later today. It’s too expensive to fix all the problems it has right now, when I can practically have a nearly brand new car for the same price.

Awesome pale ale as always. Flavors of big pineapple, peach, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, melon, passion fruit, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hop; with some light caramel/toasted bread malt and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Medium sized pine/herbal/spicy bitterness; crisp and moderately dry finish; with a sticky and lightly creamy mouthfeel. Very bright and complex on the hop character, solid sized malt backbone, not overly dry. As usual, Mosaic brings the good stuff. Probably my favorite pale ale as of recently, hoping to see some fresher cans on the shelf soon.

This is an incredible American stout. Huge flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, and smoke/charred malt; with balanced herbal, pine, spicy hops; and some raisin, plum, licorice fruitiness. Good sized pine and roast/charred bitterness; with a creamy, silky, and sticky finish; with good dryness from hops and highly roasted character. Need to get a new 6 pack soon. I love pretty much every single beer I have had from Deschutes so far, especially the year round lineup.

Here is my first contribution to Bock day(I have a new one for review later on too). Last year on Bock day I had a 2009, today is my last 2006(over 10 years old now, since they brew it a year prior and lager for a year). This is absolutely insane! Flavors of huge caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted biscuit, and light nutty malt sweetness; with balanced raisin, prune, fig, cherry, and date dark fruits; with herbal/woody spice, leather, tobacco, and a hint of vanilla/chocolate. Pleasantly warming finish with no boozy feeling. Last time I had one of these 2006 bottles was 4 years ago, which is when I reviewed it. Absolutely amazing. I need to go get some more of this for sure, finding a well aged 4 pack in a store is pretty easy if you know where to look around here.

My last 2013 bottle, amazing! Flavors of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, toasted oak, bourbon, coconut, and light chocolate; with moderate raisin, prune, fig, and date dark fruits; with lighter notes of leather/tobacco and herbal/woody spice. Fantastic flavor balance, everything is pretty much perfectly integrated right now as far as barrel, malt, and dark fruit notes. Creamy/silky finish, zero cloying sweetness. Definitely one of my top favorite cellar beers to buy every year, as with most of Founders stuff(RIS, Curmudgeon). Have plenty of 2014 to tackle at a later date.

    Cheers

This was a very interesting saison and I still haven't decided whether I liked it or not. All the farmhouse flavors are there but the citrus aromas kinda confused me. I have another bottle in the fridge so lets see how it tastes the second time round. Cheers.

Up early, packing for our trip to LA to see our daughter and grandsons.
I was chagrined to find my fridge devoid of bocks. If there's time I'll find some.

True story: Once at this large festival concert in the early '90s, I was walking through the crowd and getting more knowing smiles and angry shoves than I was accustomed to. Turns out the fly on my jean shorts had broken and I'd been rockin out with my bock out without even knowing it.

Good morning BAs!! Happy bocking. Sadly I am traveling to north of nowhere with no craft beer and didn't pack my bock. Did pack this: 2015 Allagash confluence.
A very well done Brett ale with saison flavors. Had to cool it "Hotel style"

I bought this beer in the singles section of my local wegmans and it is out of date. best by february of this year. Pours hazy and very pale. yellow not gold or golden. This beer is using Samuel Adams two-row pale malt blend, German Pilsner Malt. The nose is light on hops but they still meet the style. I am pretty sure the haze was from dry hopping as the spice character of the hops I know they are using is way too light for the nose. Malt is breaddy and golden to the nose. hops are herbal and would have had a bright spice character but now they really just show the shadow of it. No diacetyl, light dms, and no fruity esters form yeast. no caramel. As far as tasting errors are concerned hops seem to display a sticky resin like quality no matter what type of beer they are used in that has a kind of sweetness to it that is not caramel. Taste is good. Breaddy and golden with hops struggling to show you any herbal. Floral remains on the palate and only a trace of spice. Finishes crisp, clean with a small bite form bubble, light dms and plenty of breaddy malt. Moderate bitterness lingers to show you not as much golden flavor in the aftertaste so that is different from using the true pils malt exclusively and no hops to linger at all. That is how you can see the difference between the blended malt bill and one that is authentic.
