It's not the point that any company can't have something happen to their product, it's their response.

Thanks for the info. Considering I don't really care for sours, I guess that's a reason for me to not want breweries I like to produce sours.

While I understand and agree with that argument, the part of his original comment I was disagreeing with was the implication that breweries who run into these sorts of issues just don't have enough QC in place.

I busted out a hipster the other night due to talk on this forum and I have to say it tasted as good as it always has. I think that the variation people are seeing has to be from an infection in certain barrels/batches as it seems to be about a 50/50 split of people reporting it tasting fine and other reporting sour notes. Just my opinion take it as you will

i'd assume that they blend all of the barrels before bottling so this seems unlikely

This thread is like a bad movie that won't end, yet you still watch because you find it mildly amusing.

True in most cases they blend the various barrels. I am wondering though if they had enough barrels that they may have blended them in two different batches as this may account for the variation people are finding in bottles. I can honestly say there was absolutely no tartness in the bottle I had recently and I had several other people try it for objectivity sake. I do find it vary curious as to why there is such a variance across the board.

The wild yeast could have come from a brite tank that had a sour and was not properly cleaned or in the bottling line. Most breweries use separate locations for sours to keep the chance of wild yeast infection down. A example of good customer service from the Bruery http://www.thebruery.com/cleaning-the-slate-beer-issues-from-2013/

This is fairly simple to answer. From the barrels, they go back into the brite tanks for bottling and kegging. If they use multiple brite tanks to bottle the beer, there can be variation if there is infection in one of the tanks, or wild yeast is roaming somewhere. I've been speed drinking my BA Oddside beers recently, and I can report: Hipster and BBIMM are tart and obviously infected (which sucks..sent some to a regular trade buddy but will be sending him some extra beers because of it), Mokka Munt (my favorite of the bunch, actually) is beginning to turn, and I drank all my Hazels quick enough to beat the Oddside 4 month shelf life. I have some Collossal and Scallywagger left, I will be interested to crack those soon.

Fantastic link! I highly recommend everyone on this thread read it. That is a response from a brewery with professionalism.

This was my thought, but without knowing how large/many brite tanks they have its hard to make a statement without a degree of conjecture.

I've got a case of Hazel's Nuts waiting for me when I get back stateside in July. Crossing my fingers on getting there in time, though it sounds like I am either going to be too late or need to drink the case immediately. I definitely wouldn't have had someone get it for me if I knew it would go bad so fast. No way an 11% imp stout should sour within a few months. Fade in adjuncts, yes, I was expecting it, but souring? Seriously...

According to @OddSideAles it's not sour, just a "flavor change" Hoping your beers taste great when you get home

While this was a good read and all..the 2014 White Chocolate was infected and the 2015 So Happens Its Tuesday (which they didn't release to the public). The 2016 SHIT tastes like shit too. So while they have a good handle on it, they are still not out of the water. They have made good on everything though, so there is that.

Hipster is fucking amazing this year. Significantly better than last year, on par with 2015. Rye seemed questionable to me this year, but I had one right after a regular. Need to revisit. Can't believe this beer doesn't trade for more.

Any idea if Hipster and/or Rye Hipster is still available to go? I have to go to Founders already this weekend.
