I think most DIPAs are too malty and sweet for the hops to stand out. Still good beers, but when I want hops I go for regular IPAs.

That was a hard poll choice to make. It really depends on the brewery, where it from, etc., etc. I like them BOTH !!!!!!

I've preferred singles now for the past couple of years, even if they are 7-7.5%. I can have two on a weeknight and they aren't overly sweet or syrupy or bitter (depends on the beer obviously, but they lean towards sweet).
I like Dirtwolf a lot but don't buy because of ABV. Sucks I overlook because of keeping a 6 pack fresh once I buy it is tough. Wicked Weed Freak of Nature is great but Pernicious is a much better value and lower ABV.
There are plenty of good single IPAs out there for sessionability and balance.

IPA: it's a marginal preference but definitely a preference.

IPA for sure. IPA is a style that really requires a high degree of drinkability. This is even the case within the DIPA realm and I tend to prefer that ones that are below 9%. That's why a fairly boozy maltbomb like Hopslam just doesn't do it for me.

P.S. Schloppy Monster is one of my favorites as well......

I lean just a little more toward DIPA, with an abv sweet spot of 7-8%, but it depends on the beer...

I've always thought this, too. I voted IIPA/DIPA, though, because I like a balanced high-ABV beer with a big hop presence.

Of course, I like the other stuff, too. :sunglasses:

IPA is my vote all the way....unless we are talking some Double Jack, or perhaps, Maximus.

I like hops. I have no preference between APA, IPA, DIPA, etc so long as it tastes good and isn't too malty or sweet. I will admit that the 8%ish DIPA seems to be pretty magical (Heady, Abner/Double Galaxy and many of the S&S's, Double Sunshine, SoS, Haze, Epiphany, 2nd Fiddle, and so on). I'm generally not as a big of a fan of the 9%+. The few exceptions are the latest batches of Ephraim and the Enjoy By Unfiltered, but even the Enjoy By still seemed a bit too hot and boozy for my DIPA preferences.

I don't want to be overly analytical, but DIPAs are usually considered to 8%+. I think under 8% is usually considered normal IPA.
But to answer the question, almost all of my favorite IPAs have been DIPAs or TIPAs--Cloudbusting, Bon Bon 2X TNT, Heady Topper, Enjoy By, Resin, Hi-Res, Hopslam, Thunderstruck, Ruination, Hop Ranch, etc.

I dont really care but if its higher than 9~10% it gets harsh on the tongue and the malty sweetness gets too dominant. I recently started enjoying pale ales, they are much drinkable but satisfying as IPAs!

I'm in the 7 - 8% range with @Greywulfken, because most of my favorites tend to be there. When done very well, a DIPA is hard to beat, but many lose their ability to cover the alcohol. I want my beer to taste like beer, not astringent grain alcohol.

Unless I'm writing a review I don't really bother to distinguish between IPA's and DIPA's.

Regrettably, I have achieved sufficient body mass that a DIPA is totally sessionable. I can sit on my ass consuming tasty beverages in the ~8% abv range all day long and still fly an airplane. Bearing in mind that I've never learned how to fly an airplane.
