"On April 7, 1933, 14 years after Prohibition began, the sale of beer was once again legal in the U.S. Across the country, people crowded into taverns and restaurants to order a pint—or three—of the long-absent libation. So eager were Americans to wet their whistles again that many had begun packing the streets on the night of April 6, a date known as "New Beer’s Eve," to await the first deliveries. In Chicago, WGN Radio had a correspondent updating listeners as the first barrels made their way from the brewery to locations across the city, whilein Baltimore, rain-soaked patrons cheered the delivery trucks as they made their rounds."

Well, heck, I was planning on celebrating tonight (we finally got rid of a really bad customer today), but now I have an extra reason to do so.

Twas the night before Beer Day and all through the bar, not a regular was stirring, a drunk sleeping in his car. The bartenders poured the beer with care in hopes that National Beer Day will soon be there. Beer Day was founded in honor of Prohibition which limited our ability to impair our inhibition. Bootleggers ran, the cops chased but the politicians were still able to get a taste. Finally FDR said ENOUGH ENOUGH, PROHIBITION IS OVER! We started drinking again several times over. The big beer companies soon ruled the land; later, craft beer breweries would join hand in hand. Craft beer has become the next big thing. It's making homebrewers a lot of cha-ching. Big beer companies sit and fret wondering why craft beer is such a big threat. So as you sit back, relax and enjoy a cold brew, think of American beer and what it has gone through.

On that high note that is proud and true I toast HAPPY NATIONAL BEER DAY TO ALL OF YOU!!!!

Cheers BA's! Enjoy your Beer Day!

As partially noted in the OP, on April 7th, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act, signed by FDR the previous month, went into effect and changed the Volstead Act's definition of "non-intoxicating" to under "3.2% abw" - which allowed the states (only around 20 + DC by 4/7/33) to also change their laws to allow beer under that limit to be brewed and sold.

Full Repeal of National Prohibition would not occur until the enactment of the 21st Amendment which went into effect in December, 1933.

That took awhile. 25 years after Repeal, the Big 3 only controlled under ¼ of the US market. AB itself didn't even reach 10% of the market until the 1960s.

"Happy 3.2 Day" doesn't have quite the same 'ring' to it -- unless you live in Minnesota. :grinning:

So apparently today is National Beer Day. Does this actually mean anything to anyone? To me, I'll have a beer any damned day I please. Every day seems to be National This Day or National That Day. Before we know it, there will be more National Fill in the Blank days than there are calendar days in a year. Just my two cents.

@bkbeerdude15 On this day in 1933 prohibition was repealed, hence the selection of day.

National Beer Day is a celebration of the Cullen–Harrison Act being signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 22, 1933. Upon signing the legislation, Roosevelt made his famous remark, "I think this would be a good time for a beer."The law went into effect on April 7 of that year, allowing people to buy, sell and drink beer containing up to 3.2% alcohol by weight (or 4.05% by volume) in states that had enacted their own law allowing such sales

They guy who created the day actually called into DC101 today to talk about it.
