Still want to try Pirate Bomb for which I will likely self loathingly shell out the $10 or $12 they charge for a single bottle. This one should cost even more since its the Birthday variant!! I honestly don't know if I can justify buying it, the price just isn't worth it.

Haha, you guys crack me up. Some of you fork over $6-$12 for Mikkeller stouts and go nuts over Founders KBS, GI BCBS and other highly thought of dark beers but $10 for Prairie is too much? Why treat the majority Prairie beers any different than KBS BCBS, etc. when they are also once a year releases!?!? But if a barrel aged stout is your everyday beer props to you! I agree the wallet takes a hit but they're friggin' tasty... AND SORRY BUT PRAIRIE CAN'T BECOME SHELF TURDS, THEY AGE PHENOMENALLY! If you want your local shops to receive shipments of current Prairie releases you have to actually buy what's there or they won't send you more!

I can't wait for Birthday Bomb, even if it's not that much different than other bomb and bomb variants! Luckily it'll only cost $8.49 a bottle for me and sit on the shelves for a week, allowing me to stock up if need be. <--- Oh you hate that comment don't you!? :stuck_out_tongue:

Bible Belt didn't age gracefully IMO. Older waxed Bombs did though.
That being said. I agree with your statement.

Let the haters hate. It just means more "shelf turds" for the rest of us.

BCBS is cheaper per ounce and is Aged in Bourbon barrels. Bomb doesn't even compare. Praire stuff is all over here, it just doesn't represent a good value with all the other stuff available.

The Total Wines near me have been getting Bomb and some other Prairie beers more recently. I've had it twice, enjoyed it but was something I wouldn't buy regularly. Glad we have it and hope it continues to sell, gives us a better chance of getting Pirate Bomb or other beers.

Outside of Pirate, I'm pretty much done with this brewery. Their pricing structure and the increasing confusion with releases is causing some to throw in the towel. Once they start messin with Pirate, I might jump off the beer cliff myself.

I hate the price argument/ complaint people often have. It's simple, guys: if you do not want to spend said price for a beer, then don't. No one is forcing you to spend your money.

Please overlook my stupidity. I posted the above quote in the wrong thread. Here is what I was referring to below, taken from a different Prairie Bomb Thread:

Saw an entire shelf's worth today in Seattle. $13.99 per 12 ounce bottle!!!!! Are you effing kidding me. I remember buying in Midwest for $5. Um, no thanks. Sorry, but that is ridiculous and uncalled for! Somebody please justify this price.....PLEASE provide a quasi itemized breakdown of why it would cost this much. I work in the Supply Chain Industry and fully aware of "Cost".

**Edit** Sorry, but this was regular Prairie Bomb and NOT Pirate Bomb. I guess this makes the price even more dumbfounding to me.

Where is the "confusion with releases?" Also Prairie sells this to distributors at like...4.99, you can blame Shelton Brothers, not Prairie.

Oh yea the unnecessary selling it to an importer to be sold to a US distributor, still don't get it.

You mention beers that cost half of what stores are charging for Prairie and are of equal or greater quality. I don't get your argument.

"I can't wait for Birthday Bomb, even if it's not that much different than other bomb and bomb variants!"

    Cool!

"<--- Oh you hate that comment don't you!? :stuck_out_tongue:"

I hate that you pay $9 for 12oz of mediocre beer? Yeah, that burns...so bad.

If you've read this thread from the beginning you should understand my argument, maybe read the thread again. Prairie Artisan Ales release beers ONCE A YEAR just like Founder's KBS or GI BCBS. That's pretty simple to comprehend! Price difference? I wish every beer cost the same that was a BA Stout, then it'd be hit or miss if you liked it or not and there wouldn't be complaints or arguments about price, BUT THEY DON'T. And that's your opinion that Prairie makes mediocre beer, so the fact that you hate I'm buying a beer for $3 less than most people sounds like a personal problem. I was playing nice even while stating the availability I have to limited release Prairie Ales. Where's your contribution to this thread? :astonished:

I completely understand both sides of the argument here. This thread is for the Birthday Bomb, but to charge certain prices that seem a little ridiculous for a non-barrel aged beer is what caught my attention. It was my mistake and yes it looks like distribution mark-ups hold much of the blame.

I actually got your argument. Just pointing out that the beers you mentioned, regardless of availability, cost much less and are of equal or greater quality. I also had fun firing at your obviously snarky post which I feel is a fine contribution. I don't hate anything you do and couldn't care less that you pay $9 for a 12oz beer, or your Prairie connections LOL. I also have plenty of access to Prairie ales. I just choose not to buy it and will point it out any time I like, thank you.

Every damn Prairie thread devolves into complaints about pricing, if you don't like it don't buy it?

As I often post in these types of price/value arguments, ALL these highly allocated beers are UNDERPRICED. When there are no more ridiculous Saturday afternoon raffles at your local bottle shop for the priveledge of purchasing one beer, when you can find a whale on the shelf at least 45 minutes after it arrives, and when your unemployed roomate can no longer afford to run around town hoarding a case while you are at work, we will have found the right price. For me, I would pay 20 bucks a bottle to try Birthday Cake Bomb without hesitating, because Prairie makes excellent beer, and if it was good, and available, I would happily grab at least another 4.

Personally the bomb variants (Xmas, Pirate, BA) are not enough of an improvement to warrant the surcharge and additional effort required to obtain them. AB Noir and Vanilla Noir were absolutely worth the $12 I paid, but regular old "shelfie" bomb is just too good to care about the variants.
