Rose was quite a treat. Visually spectacular (never seen a pink head on an ipa) but very complex as well. The citrus (grapefruit) is like a slap in the face but I sipped my second glass last night (over about an hour) and the plethora of tastes was really quite amazing. The hibiscus elements are just enough without being overpowering and the combination of citrus and floral lead to a really pleasing effect. One of the most unique ipa's that I have ever had. Not to be to obvious but I could definitely see this beer appealing to wine drinkers. On the other hand those who enjoy a 'balanced' ipa (two-hearted) or more malt forward ipa (60 minute) might be turned off.

    Happy Friday!

Heading down to Philly this weekend and meeting my family from out of town. I've convinced them to come with me to Tired Hands on Saturday. Any opinion on Brew Cafe vs Ferementaria? Not everyone in the group will be beer nerds so I'm looking to appeal to everyone. Thanks for any advice you can spare.

    Cheers!

I love the BrewCafe, but the Ferm is a better option for the situation. The food menu is more robust, bigger place to accommodate more people. Lots of great beers are on at the Ferm right now as well. The BrewCafe is only a 5-minute walk away, though, so if you want to sneak out to check it out, you can still do that. Have a great time!

Appreciate the response. I think most of the group would appreciate some of the "how did this get made" type of features that breweries offer. If that is available more at the BrewCafe it might still hold appeal. What are the major differences in your experience?

I got a few 4 packs of Foliage a month ago or so on Thursday morning, so there has been a few of them.

You can see a lot more brewery equipment/ tanks/ wood barrels. At the cafe most is in the basement. Vide at the Fermentaria is more restaurant/ chain brew pub with tacos/ burgers. Food is good. Brew Cafe is small, bar upstairs and downstairs with table service upstairs, wood and rustic. Food is bread, cheese, salads, and paninis - beer is small batch usually one off brews and a cask offering. I personally prefer brew cafe, but for your group Fermentaria might be a good choice. Try to get them to go to both!

You can't have a tour at either location. You can peek into the brewing area through the glass windows at the Cafe, but the brewing area is a lot larger at the Ferm. The Cafe is more cozy and with am upstairs area, the Ferm is a lot more open.

Ahh, Foliage. Forgot about that, but with so many releases, Foliage seems eon ago. Hahaha.

Thanks for the tips. Had an awesome time at the Ferm yesterday. Had 4oz pours of:

    • HopHands
    • SaisonHands
    • Sunshine Green - hop #06297 was killllllller and I hope this sticks around
    • Alien Church
    • Secret Poncho
    • PUNGE
    • Root of Perception
Then took a 32oz growler of Alien Church back to NY. Great trip, can't wait to go again.

Preferred Poncho to PUNGE but that's a 1a/1b type scenario. Poncho just appealed to my personal palette more. Got to crush my growler tonight and really loved the Alien Church. Reminded me so much of the Oat Overdose collab with OH, which was a favorite of mine.

Why do people care about the growler swap thing? Not trying to sound like a jerk but I am genuinely interested. I guess if you go often you might end up with a bunch of TH growlers (I know I have like 5 Carton growlers lying around and have given away others because of the waxed growler releases) but their logo is pretty sweet anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think for some people growlers represent places they have been. I have a Russian River growler I would never want to swap out.

Well don't you have that option? Just A) don't bring it and B) if you forget buy new glass? It's only a couple bucks, I assume? Less than 5? Maybe if TH gets a crowler machine all of this will be moot anyway

100% agree. I def dont bring it to places I know I cant use it. I have no issue buying a new one. Just playing devils advocate as to why people might have an issue with the swap policy.

The day TH gets a crowler machine is the day I stop drinking craft. Their delicate and fragile beers are above the crowler.

So, you refuse to drink the Tired Hands canned beers?
