I have a bottle opener that I found in my grandfathers house. It is from a Canadian brewery that was in operation from 1897 to 1955. It is pretty cool to think at best the opener on my keychain is 60 years old.

This is at my parents' house. My dad scored it from a friend who picked it up in the 1970s from a re-model job and had it sitting in storage since. It's hand painted, and supposedley a Vargas (but I'm not so sure). However, it is cool nonetheless and has an awesome "patina" to it that does not show in the photo.

[IMG] I've had this cast iron opener awhile. l think it qualifies. It looks late 19th century, but l could be wrong. It says, 'LEMASTERS BREWERY" on the hat. Any info about it or the brewery would be appreciated (not much info, web-wise)!!

Cool opener! Are the mouth and nose the operative parts?

Yep, cap in mouth, aim bottle towards nose, and BAM you have one messed up cap. Obviously, Victorian savages didn't hold caps in high regard compared to today's more civilized humans.

The 2001 Repro had a pic of Gussie Busch (IV's grandfather, head of AB from 1946 to 1975)?

Never realized that - I thought it was the same as the original, featuring Adolphus.

Nice catch...not sure what I was thinking when I typed that. Must've been a 'mini-Altz' moment!

The original opener had Adolfus' picture imbedded in it and the repro has an antique-looking black and white A & Eagle.

My flat top Maverick beer can is one of my favorites. Paid like $5 for it back in the mid-seventies.

I just had to reply to give this an extra like. Can you tell us the story behind how you got it?

I had reluctantly agreed to go garage sale hopping with the wife and happened upon it. I could not believe my eyes and tried not to show any excitement as I examined the crate. In the end, it was only $15....and a cherished reminder of how the craft industry began.

Nice! I have the cap from that from the Great American Beer Festival maybe twenty years ago. She was there promoting it and l got to meet her. I don't remember how the beer was for some reason...
