I've never bought Against the Grain either. And it's probably really good beer, too.

These people have a really nice label as well:

I don't understand why they refuse to put out 6 packs. I live 10 minutes from their brewery and never buy their beer. I don't like paying $9.00 for one big bottle, it's ridiculous. I'm surprised they survive with just bombers. Put out a damn 6 pack!!!!

I'm not entirely fond of the change myself, but on the other hand it provides a consistency across the brand line up that was lacking before. Also the recognizability of the bottles, etc. seems to have gone up, at least for me. The effect may be temporary but in someways is like the Flying dog line up, you know who brewed when you see it. There's the same effect form the Stillwater bottles, etc. but I've found that with their beers the name of the beer gets lost in the label art, which I don't find happening with Troeg's.

I have to say I love many of their beers, but this collage of labels reminds me of all the Cash Money rap album art from the late 90's. lolol

Nimbus out of Arizona not only had crazy artwork that looked bad, but every single label on every bottle was crooked or folded over on itself. It's like they hand labeled everything while drunk.

Against the Grain makes some good beer - however it wouldn't surprise me if they've lost sales due to the lame artwork. Rico Sauvin is the worst.

Flying Dog's are the worst. I don't even bother trying to understand what beers on even on the shelf. Won't ever buy them.

5 Rabbit here in Chicago I find equally confusing to know what they are. Just too much going on.

Fort Collins did a very nice refresh. I don't particularly care for their stuff, but nice job on the art.

I also really like the new GLBC and Deschutes labels.

Probably on the outside looking in on this one, but Maine's labels are far to similar to spend the time to see what's there in front of me.

Yeah, doing something along those lines was needed, but they just could've gone in a better direction.

It's funny how Troegs is mentioned, along with their revamp. Imo, Troegs' labels have always sucked, and I don't think the new ones are really any better or worse. I'd agree with @drtth that the new branding does improve the brand recognition for me, and there is something to be said for that. I'm going to buy beer from Troegs either way, as they produce quality products.

Additionally: Smuttynose, Magic Hat, and Victory (there aren't terrible or anything, but I think they could use a little sprucing up.)

Not gonna lie, Green Flash's label design is one of the reasons why I haven't picked up any of their beers yet. That, and the price around here.

Label design is literally how I picked most beers before, especially liquor, wine! Lagunitas is good stuff usually, but I hate the labels, so I rarely buy it. Haha. Now days I usually have an agenda to what I'm searching for, but when I go to the bottle shop, I always buy 1 bottle of something I've never had and usually base my pick on the design!

They make some amazing sours, but Cascade Brewing needs some work. Reminds of the Hoppin' Frog vibe.

    Smuttynose have some terrible packaging/labels.
This beer in particular was sat in my local store and I overlooked it because it looked ridiculous (wasn't even sure what style it was)
Turned out to be pretty good.
They have others that look amateurish and not clearly defined as in the style etc.

Do you honestly feel that marketing plays zero role in the beer business? If that were truly the case, we'd all just put our beer in blank cans and labels that denoted the brewery and style.

    I'll vote for Troegs.

I think most of Flying Dog's labels are great. The more minimal ones like brewhouse rarities and the single hop IPA's are particularly nice but I find others (Pearl Necklace) to be very ugly (but it's intentionally ugly for what it's worth)

We're aware of the issue and are addressing it. Our new labels require new equipment on the bottling line to apply them and we're working on dialing in calibration.

Trillium labels are probably my favorite. Also a big fan of the bissel brothers swish can design for some reason and Cycle's Lost Dos.

I would like to see casey switch up their labeling a bit though. It would be nice to be able to tell which fruit stand I have without looking on the back of the bottle at the bottom.

I'll stick to whats in the bottle, and affordability, as the criteria for my beer choices.
