My first Gruit. I can only imagine the variables in a style category called "ancient ale"
Honestly i cant drink this. Its so interesting and i keeo sipping it but being as respectful as possible to a thousands of years old recipe, my body shudders at its taste and even though i want to finish this, i feel like my body will not allow me to. This is a first for me.

It tastes like berries, tea, dandelions, fresh mint, cilantro. Very interesting.

Without disrespecting it, it tastes like if you ever left tea in your car too long and it got hot and turned into homemade hooch after a few days. I want to like this.

I know what you mean. I've tried a couple gruits and, while I want to like them, I just can't.

I see some people are up early today. I guess I'm one of them. My yellow lab was hungry, so he started head butting my bed at 6am. It's difficult to ignore an 80 pound dog pounding on your bed.
After feeding and walking him and his two sidekicks, I am up for the day. It looks like it will be a beautiful spring day in southern Maine.
    Enjoy the weekend!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday!

Awesome pale ale as always. Flavors of big pineapple, peach, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, melon, passion fruit, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with some light caramel/toasted bread malt and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Medium sized pine/herbal/spicy bitterness; crisp and moderately dry finish; with a sticky and lightly creamy mouthfeel. Very bright and complex on the hop character, solid sized malt backbone, not overly dry. This is probably my new favorite pale ale. I love Mosaic hops.

Excellent DIPA. Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, papaya, lemon/orange zest, citrus rind, and pine hops; with light-moderate cracker/bready/light honey malts; and herbal/floral/grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/rind/spicy bitterness; with a medium bodied sticky/resinous mouthfeel with a fair amount of grainy creaminess. Moderate increasing dryness with zero hop astringency. Quite lighter feeling on the malts than I expected, and very bright/dank on hops. Very drinkable for the ABV. Glad I got a 6 pack, but I need to finish it off.

1 year old batch tasting incredible right now. Huge flavors of caramel, raisin, cherry, fig, date, vanilla, toffee, brown sugar, bourbon, toasted oak, and light molasses/coconut. Balancing bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish against the sweetness; with a pleasantly warming finish with no booziness. Very smooth sipping; with a creamy, silky, and fairly slick mouthfeel. I got some of the newest batch this year, but I was glad I stumbled upon another 4 pack of last year's a few months ago. I always feel it is far better after at least year.

Incredible stuff! Flavors of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, molasses, toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, clove, ginger, anise, vanilla, and oak; with light bourbon/toffee barrel notes and a touch of coffee. Light-medium herbal/roast bitterness with light bourbon/oak spice; with a fairly full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel with some light sticky/chalky notes from the roast malt and spices. Great bittersweet and spice balanced finish. Very smooth sipping, lightly warming finish. The spice character seemed to have covered up almost all of the boozy bourbon character of fresh Dragons milk; but the balance between malt and spices was damn near perfect; and you still get some nice oak barrel complexities in the background. Feels a bit more robust and fuller bodied than the base beer. Still have a whole other 4 pack left. I have been loving all of the dragons milk variants. Just got the Chocolate/Coffee this week, and will be getting more of it too.

    Cheers

Happy Saturday, beer peeps, and a beautiful day it is !

Was up early....meowing momma cat Stella was hungry at 6 am so no sleeping in on this day off!

Got a lot of work done Friday on my boat, all the mahogany woodwork has been stripped and sanded and first coat of marine polyurethane applied....should be able to get a few more coats on today and finish cleaning / waxing the deck / hull.

Started out with a portabella and ramp filled omelet - yum!

And some appropriate beverages as well....

    Enjoy your weekend!

Good morning BAs! Starting off to be a beautiful day here in NW PA - it's time to brew again. This batch will be a rye pale ale: January's was a coffee stout. My breakfast beer today, New Beer Saturday, is from the most recent NBS BIF, courtesy of @superspak:

A pleasant English barleywine which holds off on the alcohol until the very end - it's just hitting now. Looks like next month's MI run will include Marquette!
