I love how spoiled we are in SoCal these days. Not too long ago, these farmhouse ales were non existent, and getting hazy juicy IPAs took really lopsided trades.

    THIS
I compare their model to HPB no one else is putting out that much variety at their level of quality, consistency and frequency in LA. If someone isn't into the trendy hazy IPAs they always have their year round beers on draft and bottles. Ninja Star and Anomaly are still good brews. I prefer having options

Back to business...opened Run the Pigeon can yesterday split 5 ways. We all thought RtP was weaker than First Things First (which we opened next). I thought FtF had more flavor profile. It reminded me more of Off the Record. A hazy session IPA. I think this is Monkish's 2nd(?) attempt at a IPA. Not counting the collab. It will take some fine tuning. But I know Monkish will hit the mark. Cheers.

I'm learning to use the unfollow button on a much more regular basis. That last comment did it for me.

I'm loving these beers. Monkish is my jam these days.

Loved the beer yesterday and all the monkish crew I know, or have met, have all been really nice people. My only criticism has to do with other people that go to the releases. Dozens of people were cutting line right up to 12:00. I know it's not the biggest problem now because pretty much everyone there got cans...but soon these releases will sell out and leave people waiting in line with nothing. I hope Monkish starts handing out number tickets to people in line as a check to those who cut.

Monkish has done BPT for very small releases before. Black Kisses was 300 bottle count...maybe that's an option for the IPAs as well? Just set a one weekend pickup window to get it out fresh.

I'd even say keep it to a one day pick-up, works already. Don't buy if you can't make it. No proxies.

Catchy being so catchy, he should up his own brewing consulting firm.

@Catchy_Name Guess I'm confused how it was a shitshow, though. Line formed, yes. But things were quick and orderly, and everyone there by 1:30 or so got the beer.

Of course, no lines are preferable. But in terms of these types of releases, tough to handle it better than they did.

Wasn't a shitshow and beer is good.

Good on Monkish for brewing a version of IPA that is highly in demand right now and executing it well. They can continue to brew their excellent Monk-ish style beers as well as the IPA. Who would whine when a brewery produces so many styles - and does so well?

Third that.....it was not a sh!te show yesterday. I arrived just as the doors opened and was probably number 100 in line. so those who did cut in line (shame on them) must of did before I got there. And that is a problem. When Monkish can release gets bigger/longer it will become an issue. Just like Kern's Citra bottle release several years ago. Maybe it will be more of a sh!te show on the next release of the DIPA.

I think this was asked before but what's up with the name? Is it a Run the Jewels reference?

Speaking of, the guy in front of me as we got cans to go accidentally grabbed an additional bag as he thought it was a 4 pack per bag. He didn't realize till he got to his car, he promptly returned it so there's still some good people out there.

They need to start specializing in kvass and only then will they get catchy's respect.

clearly Monkish is making a huge mistake by brewing styles of beer people are currently purchasing. I see them crashing and burning quickly. If only a craft brewery would just make heffs, lagers, and other varieties most beer lovers don't really go crazy for...they would absolutely kill it.
