Does anyone know if there is a way to identify which bottles of CCB Guava Grove are the "mistake" soured batch from about a year ago? I thought you could tell by the bottle caps - the plain silver ones are the older batch vs the newer logo CCB caps... but I do not think that's the case.

seriously? nothing? should i move this to another forum where people actually answer questions instead of how old are you, and what is the best old DIPA to drink while taking a fresh crap.

The messed up but better version of Guava Grove is labeled Guava Groove.

I do not believe this is true. Guava Groove is the version with more (2 or 3x) Guava, with the newer yeast I believe.

CCB used to use the St. Somewhere wild yeast with Guava Grove. I believe this is what you're referring to. I originally didn't post since I believe the only two main recipe differences are the original St. Somewhere yeast Guava Grove and the newer Guava Grove, but I very well could be wrong. I do not know how to distinguish them, but I'm sure someone on here knows.

Incorrect. Guava Groove is not the same beer

from what i've been told, it was originally st. somewhere yeast, farmhouse style and not sour. there was one batch, though, that they deviated from the original recipe and it came out sour and awesome (about a year ago. possibly a little longer than a year ago). however, the next batches after that went back to the original non-sour farmhouse style.

This all very well could be true. However, I do not believe they use the St. Somewhere yeast anymore. I believe that was a wild yeast, but I'm not sure. Like I said, I am sure there is someone on here who knows much more than I do about this.

The newest batch of Guava Grove came out about 2 weeks ago. I believe the new ones have a bottling date. And the last time they brewed it was last year.

Would be nice to know, as I have one of these as well. Do these both have the same label? I have this one:

still don't believe that is correct, because i've had multiple bottles of 'newer' non sour guava grove over the past year.

i'm pretty sure i know all of this because there was a thread about it on the old BA a long time ago, that is no longer around. talking about the, what cigar city called, the bad batch of sour guava grove. i have had about 3 bottles of the sour version, and they all had silver caps. however, i have also had a bottle or 2 of just silver capped ones in the last 6 months that were not sour. no dates could be found on the bottle, unless it's very well hidden.

I just looked at the bottle i have, (picked up last week) it has a silver ccb cap, as for the old ones cant help you.

You may want to head over to the ccb website and send them an email. Jenifer Redner is really good about replying and answering questions.

Did they actually mess up the batch? I did a quick Google search and they had a comment on their FB page indicating they intentionally went with a sour strain soon after the first release?

In either case, contacting CCB might be your best bet as it appears they actively reply to postings on FB.

The very first batch is supposedly the same way they brew it now. The 2nd year (and 3rd?) they brewed it using St Somewhere's bacteria. It creates a very recognizeable flavor if you've ever had St. Somewhere's beers or Sea Bass/Vuja De/grandma sour or whatever it's called. I don't know how to tell the difference between bottles. The souring was not by mistake as far as I know since they purposely put bacteria in it.
