Inspired by the Favorite Colorado IPA thread that has informed a TON of my decision-making in buying beers...

I wanted to see what BA thinks are the best Belgian offerings in CO. I'm thinking styles like dubbel, tripel, quad, saison, Belgian golden, Belgian strong, and any other ale you could conceivably fit into this category.

    Cheers!

All Funkwerks. Aspen Saison. I like Ratio's Dear You saison a lot too.

It doesn't get a lot of love, but anyone who doesn't say La Folie should have to explain themself. Although I also really like FW Deceit (and I think I probably rated Deceit higher than La Folie).

NB's dubbel, Abbey, is good too.

I love Casey's beers, but I (maybe inaccurately) consider them to be more American takes on a Belgian style than Folie or FW Saison.

    Everything Funkwerks.
    Everything River North.
New Belgium Abbey, Trippel, Hof Ten collab, and very much looking forward to the rest of that collab series this year.
    Aspen Saison.
    River North One Great City.
Dry Dock's anniversary quad was solid.
Snowbank Tripel if they ever do that again.

Funkwerks Nelson Sauvin is a really nice Saison. They have some great specials that don't see distribution.
River North's BA J.Marie is fantastic but imperial Saison isn't an authentic style.

We have the non-standard (mixed-fermentation) stuff locked down with Casey, Crooked Stave, New Belgium, etc.
For the more typical stuff, I'd sadly say that's an area the US is lacking in general. There are some exceptions as Funkwerks Deceit is amazing, NB's flagships are underrated, and we have some fine Tripels. I don't feel there are all that many good American Quads and Dubbels, though. I think kind of like most lagers, there's a certain depth that seems tough to capture even if the recipes aren't complicated.

I'm an idiot. I meant Ratio One Great City.

Soul Squared is making nice Belgian styles as well.

Strange Cherry Kriek. Avery Reverend and Salvation. La Folie. Funkwerks (all?).

Are Casey and Crooked Stave considered "Belgian style"? I suppose it depends on the yeast---but if they're Brett focused, is that Belgian?
    My head hurts....

I dunno man. When batch 1 of Balaton Cut came out it tasted exactly like fresh 3F Kriek. Huge fruit, funk and slight sourness. Some of the older Oak Theory batches now smell and taste very similar to Boon Gueze.

I know Troy likes to call them "Belgian inspired" but some of those beers are damn close to the real deal.

Not sure why more people don't mention them, not enough love for this great brewery.

My first thought when I saw this thread was that we don't have any great quads here in Colo. I like Reverend, but its a far cry from St. Bernardus/Rochefort/etc.
I love Casey, but I don't get the same funky notes from his beers that I get from the Belgian gueuze or lambics. Senne Valley terroir v. Roaring Fork Valley terroir, I guess.

I do think that the Casey cherry beers are closest approximations to the Belgian fruited sours that Casey makes.

I'm a fan of Elevation's Third Base (tripel) and Apis IV (quad). Mildly surprised they haven't been mentioned yet.
