You mentioned in one of your posts that you were visiting your folks "Upstate". I'm originally from Upstate NY, and opinions vary as to where Upstate is. Where are your folks located?

Not too far, actually- they're in Bethel, just west of Monticello. We can actually hear the concerts at Bethel Woods (at the site of the original Woodstock Festival) from their deck. That area immediate surrounding the museum/concert pavilion has developed quite nicely with shops, restaurants, bars and the like, although it hasn't spread to the rest of Sullivan County, unfortunately.

I've spent some time in that area. I got a few stories even; but they involve dynamite, someone falling out of a van while holding a bottle of vodka, and the ensuing trip to the emergency room. It's a long story, and it usually takes a couple beers to tell.

I have something similar (no emergency room, though), but we call it "Fear and Loathing In Tuxedo NY"

Some day soon we shall have to make the time and beers available...

We got kicked out of the bar in White Lake for playing frisbee with the hamburgers. That was one of the lesser moments of that night. And weekend even.

Finals are looming and have been a bit dominated by my allergies recently, so I'm trying not to consume as much beer for the next few weeks. I'm sure I'll be back next week!

    Holy crap!
I think if I was allowed to pick only one brewery not currently distributed to the PNW to magically come here, it might well be Founders. Not only has everything I've had from them (not much, admittedly) been great, but they have the right idea about huge beers - 12oz bottles! 22oz of Backwoods Bastard would have either killed me or led me to be arrested.

Good luck with the finals! Once you're done, the beer will taste that much better.

Upstate is everything north of 242nd Street in the Bronx.

Oh, so very wrong. If you extend the PA/NY borderline across to the CT border, everything above that Is Upstate, the rest is either downstate or The City. Hell, Orange County is almost The City.

Like @woemad I too am cracking a wonderful Founders beer from my wonderful sender (@WesMantooth). FBS is actually a beer I've had before (when I lived in St. Louis), but I did not review it at that time for some reason. That mistake has been rectified. This is good shit. I also agree with @woemad that Founders is among the elite few within this passion of ours that meld incredible high quality, consistency, and availability* (in theory). The brewery and this beer in particular have quite a reputation, and per my experience both of those are absolutely deserved. Thanks Corey!

All that's irrelevant. If I can't get there by subway, it's upstate.

Haha I have some I would love to share on that day too. A couple of mine would be "Fear And Loathing in Oaxaca", and a sorta how-to guide, "How To Get Sick And Then Lost On A Metro North Train That Only Has Four Cars"
