I do a lot of work on my own to figure out what beers are coming out at stores I frequent. It may be "anti-advocate" to some, but I don't think sharing that on a public forum is the best idea. I think I can still be an "advocate" without sharing some of my own hard work. But, that's just how I roll.

I'm not sure there is a right answer, honestly. Just keep drinking beer you like.

What I understand is that he comes here, to the community, decides what is and isn't fact with little evidence to support his claims, and curses at folks that question or act counter to his notions of how the beer advocate community should act. Unfortunately, reading through the Chicago beer release threads shows this to be a pattern of behavior rather than an isolated incident.

My problem isn't actually with what he's trying to argue, it's that he attacks anyone that disagrees with him and treats new enthusiasts like crap. If, as you say, he has good standing, then he should be using a site intended to help people expand their knowledge and access to great beer as an advocate, rather than as an antagonist. This is not to say that he's unhelpful since you see him being cordial and engaged in many threads. I'm merely tired of the seeing new folks treated as if they don't deserve to use the site by a number of people in these forums.

To be fair, I don't see that he's posting things like this. If so, then that's pretty awful, but, as I've called for him, you really should provide proof is you're going to make an attack claim like that. Otherwise you're just using the same poor argument strategy, and that's clearly not getting us anywhere.

You're right, I'm guilty of hyperbole here. My apologies.

It's happened and he's been called out on it before. I didn't bookmark it, nor am I going to spend the time trying to go back and find those posts, but thanks for your support.

It sounds like a handful of the Whole Foods still haven't got it. Elmhurst said this week Tuesday or Thursday. Keep ya head up!

In the end it's just beer. While there are plenty of people out there with ill intentions, there are even more of us who just like to drink great beer and enjoy the hunt. Always great to snag 'em, but you can't win em all. God forbid you aren't able to snag the hottest bourbon barrel stout once in a while.

I love these forums and they've helped me snag plenty of awesome beers since I moved to Chicago so I'll continue to pass along information that helps someone else have the same experience.

I love these posts about "hurting the community." I tell some friends where to buy something so they don't have to waste their valuable time? That somehow hurts others?

What sucks is the hoarding/following the delivery truck, but I'm not going to whine about it. So be it. The scene here is absolutely ridiculous as it is; can't get much worse.

Still nothing in Orland Park or Mokena. Kind of worried that this one will be missed out on like pirate bomb.

Huh, didn't know that people actually still chase this beer. Why don't you just grab some good locals, hit the trade boards and make a new partner or friend out in California?

Some people prefer not to bother with shipping costs, risk of damage, etc. I'm sure an argument could be had for whether that outweighs and time and energy spent finding it, but I think the costs involved with trading deter a lot of people.

It's a barrel aged beer in a box, of course Chicago is chasing it.

All the Firestone boxed beers are shelf turds on the west coast. Chicago beer nerds create unnecessary demand and hype for these beers.
