I stopped by the BevMo in Glendale, CA to pick up 2 bottles of Parabola...to my surprise, the guy behind the counter said "Do you also want a Sucaba? If you buy three 22oz craft beers, you'll get 20% off your entire purchase"

Got a call from my guy today. He's put one aside for me.....so apparently it's arrived in Boise.

I saw the same deal....was wondering if someone was going to be able to take advantage of it. Congrats!

I wasn't able to acquire any this year. All of the local shops I frequent were out of them within hours. So bummed but on the other hand I still have money to buy other Firestone offerings :grinning: I am really digging their first batch of Luponic Distortion.

Everyone said the same thing about Sucaba how its so good and hard to get.... i bought one and there is 11 more still sitting on the shelf .... i honestly could not get past the first drink, couldn't even give it away, i flushed it. The reviews and ratings made it sound like it was the best thing ever, as do the Parabola. Even though i think i would like the stout better than the barley wine im scared of another $17 down the toilet. And Firestone Walker is my favorite brewer... disappointed.

I would agree that this year's Sucaba wasn't the best I've had, but it certainly wasn't a drain pour.

i guess you don't like barleywines because sucaba isn't a drain-pour any way you slice it.

Are you relatively new to drinking craft beer? What else have you had from Firestone? Sounds like you just don't like barleywines which is fine.

Yeah, I gotta second this. If you like barrel aged barleywines, this is up there with the best of them. But, if you do't like barleywines or don't try a lot of barrel aged offerings then I can see this being difficult to drink. Shame to hear it was DP'd.

I can't see drain pouring a FW barrel aged beer either, and I'm not the hugest fan of some of them. And, if I were truly scared of spending another $17 on the Parabola, then I would probably take a step back and figure out if some of these craft beer options really are the best idea for me to spend money on.

I was thinking the same thing, can't put my finger on it but this batch just wasn't as great as years past. I kind of chalk it up to changing tastes but not to sure.

As far as I can tell - yeah, gone. Places that were expecting it didn't get any. I don't think this has anything to do with the distribution issues that's plagued Founders/Bell's/Avery in the area either. It just was limited quantities and evaporated. Mix It Up seems to have sold theirs in 4 minutes (if that's where you were referring to) and other places (like G&G) didn't even bother posting I guess. It sounds to me based on what I heard that TW got most of it. Probably best to call them at this point but I'm pretty sure it's gone.

Figured as much, thanks. The TW closest to me had it Monday morning but by the time I got by after work it was long gone.

That's funny, I was wondering what about it had changed also. It could definitely be my own tastes changing, or maybe just a different recipe. Or both. But this year's batch lacked the magic for me of some of the past batches I've had.

I drank my first '16 last night and also noticed the difference. It had a bitterness to it that I wasn't expecting and lacked the deep complexity that I love about Parabola. I know our palate can differ day to day so I'm going to drink another one soon to make sure and will also drink a '14 or '15 soon as well before I can confirm that this years batch is as off as it tasted to me last night.

Is this strictly from the bottle? I had a couple times on draft and it was great, but I haven't opened a 2016 bottle yet.

Are you talking about Parabola or Sucaba?

Well this is the Parabola thread and I said it was Parabola in the post so not sure why that wasn't clear. :astonished:
