I haven't had any of those either, Congress St is on my wish list, if that counts:slight_smile:

Only one I have had was Permanent Funeral.. Don't find it all that bitter to be honest, but not many beers are anymore. I just notice flavor more than anything (and I don't particularly care for PF). Had it a few times and think its OK.

Kernel is doing hazy, fruity, perishable IPAs better than most of the U.S. breweries who are prominent with the style. If you're in the U.K. it's a must try for pretty much any of their brews.

I've had Bling Pig, and maybe Alien Church.

I just responded to a post regarding England's "Mild May", lamenting how in the U.S. we have neither true "real ale" nor mild ale in any volume, and then I see this...

Perhaps the trade-off of not having real ales and milds against having access to hundreds or thousands of IPAs and other unique beers is well worth it.

What I really want to say is - I WANT IT ALL !!!

I do believe most, if not all, of the beers on this this could be categorized as whales. As in limited distribution by small breweries with even local availability hit or miss. But again, with the [useless] lists. Anyone who has a computer can put together a list of excellent beers which have limited distribution. A beer isn't excellent just because it's been on a published list.

I've only had one of those. I enjoy drinking local brews, and trying new stuff when I'm travelling. I also get extremely jealous of all the great beers I can't get to sometimes, though I try to not to.

Had their Nelson-Chinook-Simcoe IPA and it was outstanding. Wish I had had the time to visit and pick up some of their treats. It might have been my favorite hoppy beer of my trip to the UK/Belgium.

I've had at least one beer from all of those breweries. Haven't had the Half Acre, FFF, or the Deciduous. Interesting selection for that article.

Permanent Funeral wasn't all that bitter and I tend to not like overly bitter IPAs. Great brew though.
Vallejo was pretty bitter, very unique and tasty. Pretty easy to get when in season within their distro area, which admittedly is small.

3 for me. Pig, PF, and Congress Street.

    What's so bad about bitter?

I'm pretty much done with super bitter IPAs. Congress Street isn't very bitter at all. It's the only one I've had from this list. Trusted friends rave about Epiphany.

I've had PF and Congress Street. Congress Street was not really what I would classify as a bitter IPA. PF had a more pronounced bitterness but it wasn't as bitter as some of the west coast IPA's I've had.

They left out one of the most balanced ipas available right now...swish from bissell brothers. also happens to be right across the street from foundation.

    Epiphany is legit.

I really want to try 3 Floyds at some point.

I honestly thought that Vallejo tasted dusty from the 4 day old can I had of it.

Based on the Blind Pig and Permanent Funeral selections which I've had, the writer of that article doesn't know much about hops yet. Neither of those two are overly bitter.

It's great that you're tuned in to your changing preferences, but do you think that the positive and negative connotations here are deserved:
