    Hi BA,

Starting on May 8th, (because i want to participate on a tasting on May 7th), ill be drinking ONLY beer brewed in New Jersey for the month of May. The reason for this thread is because of the state i live in, i feel like breweries in NJ are over shadowed by Carton and Kane. and while great brewers, NJ has a lot more to offer that i want to share although theres not many that distribute. Ill be including Carton and Kane if possible. this is by no means a bash thread. Ill be posting in this thread as i go and hopefully i can give some insight on lesser known or less "interesting" brewers my main focus being Flying Fish, River Horse, Rinn Duin, Forgotten Boardwalk, Beach Haus, any beer in bottle or can distro etc...... if others would like to join me, go for it.

    Cheers,
    Erik.

I need to try this some time. Unfortunately most good non TG beer in Iowa isn't bottled and growlers are expensive. Should be fun and I'm interested to see what else your state has to offer.

Sadly i feel the same about Kane, they may not be part simply because i cant get to the brewery.

We all have good breweries we can't get to. In Iowa I've been hearing a lot about big grove, which I have never had anything from, and lion bridge which I've only had one and it was solid. I would love an excuse to get out to the breweries in the state that have been off my radar.

I feel you on this. Carton and Kane are ~2 hours away from me, give or take. Quite a haul. I've only ever been to each once.

Between Other Half, Singlecut, Grimm, Barrier, Finback, Sand City, and Threes I'm drinking about 95% local these days.

And you know something? I like it.

I could survive on CT breweries. Even in a small state, there are enough quality establishments to satisfy every craving, whether it be hoppy, malty, roasted or sour.

I'd love to do the same but there's a distinct lack of distributed craft beer in New Brunswick. There are 3 or 4 breweries that are sold in stores but all of the others (20 or so of them) only sell in-house or in bars that aren't in my town :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck on your quest for local beer! I'm sure it will be much easier for you in New Jersey than it would be for me here in New Brunswick!

Easy to do in NC now.

SN, WW, Foothills, NoDa ,OMB, Trophy, Wooden Robot, Burial, Olde Hickory, Highland are just a few off the top. Lots left out.

Almost all easily avail uber fresh. Good times.

Being in the NYC Metro Area, I don't see much sense in defining my beer zone by State just because of a line on the map. But I do find myself thinking 'locally' when I'm at a bar, especially; except that I'm including NYC, the Hudson Valley and even CT as 'local'. Could I do it for a month? Hard to say, since most of those beers I'm getting are draught-only. It's something to ponder, though, even if it's just for kicks.

its an awesome idea. plenty of breweries in NJ to keep you busy.

aside from what you mentioned youve got,

    Little Dog
    Dark City
    NJ beer Co.
    Rammstein
    cricket hill
    brix city
    magnify
    jersey girl
    angry erik
    departed soles
    manskirt
    bolero snort
    climax
    and many many more

theres 50 breweries in the state, 15 brewpubs and 30 more breweries in planning, realistically you could extend this streak over a month and still do a different new brewery each day.

Should be able to do this in VA., now that we have almost 80 breweries. I should be able to, although I think I might stray a bit, lol

It would be a fun experiment. Hell if I wanted to take it further, I could probably be content for a month with beer brewed within 40 minutes of me (Fat Heads, Great Lakes, Brew Kettle, Platform, Thirsty Dog, Hoppin Frog, plus all the small draft-only places).
