I noticed today that Surly's prices have gone up 10% at the Beerhall .

    Some examples ;

    Xtra Citra $5.50 16oz
    Furious $5.50 16 oz
    Coffee Bender $6.50 : Can
    Axeman $6 : 10 oz
    Blackr $6: 10 oz
    Pentagram $7 : 10 oz

I like Surly and live really close to the brewery but can't justify these prices. I wonder what the thinking was on putting up prices .

That does kinda suck. I liked the $5 across the board (more or less).

It should not cost more to buy a brewery's beer at their taproom than any other bar. Surly can charge whatever they want and patrons that come from the suburbs or further would pay them, but it definitely alienates local regulars.

Totally Agree!! That car park is always full , luckily I can take the light rail but most of those cars are coming from the suburbs. I get they are running a business but they've been open 1 year and have increased prices .

You bring up a great point , I've seen Surly on tap specials for $3 dollars so why $5.50 ?

These prices don't really seem that outrageous to me. I don't recall the last time I got a Furious for too much cheaper than that on a non-happy hour time frame.

I always felt the food was more overpriced than anything. Plus the wait is ridiculous, so I haven't been in months.

Pro-tip if you go during less busy hours just snag a seat at the bar and order the Hog Frites. Food prices per amount of food vary wildly and seemingly at random (looking at you tiny flatbread and 4 small ass pieces of brisket). Hog frites are bomb. $11 and could be a full meal if just I ate them.

Food prices have gone up too, I believe. A minimum $20 for a burger and beer now. Makes sense as they are clearly struggling to make money.

Maybe someone connected to the industry, but I think taprooms regularly price their beer at a higher price point than their tap accounts do. I think the main reason is to not be seen as undercutting the accounts they are also selling to. If they were at the same or better prices at the beer hall, people would just flock there and they'd cannibalize their ability to sell to tap accounts.

They're smart business people. They know that people are going to come to the beer hall because its shiny and new and great. Those people don't care if the beer is a couple bucks more. It's not like they are starving for business there b/c people refuse to show up and pay the high prices.

I agree that it sucks for you and I, but it makes business sense.

If anything taprooms should be more expensive so they don't undercut their retail customers.

Yes, the wait sucks. I hope this reduces demand enough that I don't have to wait a half hour to sit down.

I just hope Surly will survive... clearly they are struggling. I mean, waiting 30 minutes to sit in a 200 person brewhall, can't be good for business. I assume everyone there is not spending money.

For me, I go there when they have something only available on tap or if friends from out of town want to see it. Otherwise, I can find a $3-5 pint at any other place. Plus, there are way to many other option to stick with one brewery.
Also, Turtles in Shakopee has $3 MN pints and 1/2 price burgers on Monday. Basically, $10 for a burger and pint. Yes I realize it isn't Surly food, but the beer is the same!

I literally envision a Scrooge McDuck situation going on in the back of that place. I just wanna know of Omar wears the stripey little one piece swimsuit.

The price that their retail accounts have inflated the cost of tap beers over the past few years leaves me zero sympathy if Surly undercuts them. I thought 5 was completely fair for the taproom prices, if a retailer wants to charge more than that, that's up to them and their demand, but by no means can they accuse Surly of undercutting them.

Am I the only one that thinks these Beer Hall prices increases may be a possible sign of upcoming huge news for Surly later in 2016???

Am I the only one that thinks a lot of their stuff is overpriced anyways. Why not be overpriced across the board and have it that way at the beer hall too. They do put out good product, but some of it is excessive.
