Do you hear that faint noise in the background?? It's the sound of horizontal-builders weeping...

Hope the 20 variant thing is true, unless they are all going to be aged in sweet wine barrels. Oliver Soft Red barrel-aged Dark Lord?

You won't have to make a snap decision. If there are going to be 20 variants then then I suspect totes will be prepackaged and you get what you get and move on. Otherwise it will take forever for the lines to move with everyone asking what variants are left.

Yeah. There is no way randomly means....you choose....like....what? That's not random. That's nowhere near the definition of random. Unless everyone is rolling a 20-sided die. OMG what if we're rolling a 20-sided die*.

*We're not. What happens at the end of the day when 8 of the variants are gone and you have to keep re-rolling.

First off, well done, @RexKramer! Just what we needed to get this thread's page count easily into the 80s!

Secondly, those bottles are going to be badass, and I'm looking forward to collecting some, just as Nick says in the article.

Third, while it may be true that we can select our preferred variant (and the article is wrong or badly-phrased), I don't see how "randomly selected" would imply that we can choose our own. That's not random.

I'm not sure whether I'm hoping for random or for the ability to select my own...

I got a Coleman rain suit at Wal-Mart yesterday for $10. I'd use my suit from last year, but I ripped the pants. Don't ask.

Everyone freaking out over random selection, DNAinfo isn't exactly a pillar of journalistic accuracy. But once again, hope they are right since I'm in C.

Except they've already said that you receive your tote at the entry gate along with the food/drink vouchers... so will they literally just hand us a random bottle? I dunno, none of this seems to jive with what FFF has been saying all along on the DLD website and Twitter, so I would initially be inclined to just dismiss it - but it's based on an interview with Nick! Gah.

Once the vanilla variants are gone, people will be randomly selecting between the remaining 8 variants. There's no order for which people select their variants. Thus, making it random.

Dammit I'm an idiot, sorry @iualum95 - rereading the Tickets page of the DLD website actually says that you get your bag and bottles upon entering the actual brewery. "• Upon entering the brewery, you will receive your Barrel Aged Dark Lord variant, 4 bottles of 2016 Dark Lord and commemorative bag." So yes, if indeed the random selection all pans out, I'm sure that what you said will be what happens.

If we do all randomly get a variant, throwing the 2015 leftovers in the mix seems like an extremely low blow

As a member of Group B I sure hope I get to pick my own bottle. The last thing I want is being forced to spend $50 on some vile hot pepper nonsense beer.

That would not bother me as much as some of the already posted variants. I like two buck chuck.

The more I think about this the more it makes sense to just give someone a bag with the variant pre-packaged. Having everyone stand around and debate what bottle to get would seriously take forever, if there really are "20 variants" or so to choose from. In any event, I e-mailed the DNAInfo writer to perhaps get a little clarification if this was intended to signal Nick's intent from the interview - will post a reply if I get one.

The bottle "sales" take place in the brewery itself. The fest isn't technically in the brewery.

Also, randomly selected just seems bogus. What if someone is allergic to peppers and gets muerte?
