Surly Four Release

They've been rebrewing and releasing the anniversaries at the tap room, draft only. They had one and two on about a month ago, I think i read that three is on now. So four should be soon, but I'm not entirely sure.

 

I do believe Three was on tap at a bar. Guessing if they make it out of the brewery, it is for a special occasion.

 

They haven't exactly announced them all the same. I think the first one people noticed it on the web site, other ones people noticed on Untappd and they may have tweeted about three ahead of time.

I would just count on it just showing up. The others have lasted a while. Four probably is going to be more popular, but I doubt it will be gone in hours.

 

One day you will walk in and BAM it will be there

 

...and inevitably it won't be as good as the original release.

 

Grumpys on Washington will have Four, Eight, Nein, and '15 Darkness on May 12th at 4pm.

 

Just saw on Surly web site that Four is on tap at brewery?!

 

There are check in on Untappd today as well.

 

Just called Surly they stated it might only last a couple days......

 

Tried it yesterday. Pretty decent.

I noticed that no mention was made of freeze distillation. Considering the legality (or not) of such a production technique it wouldn't surpise me if this is a substantially different beer than the original release (as has been the case for the other re brews)

 

It was freezed distilled? I didn't realize. I assumed "iced double espresso milk stout" was a reference to iced coffee.

 

Back in the day I remember a person of importance at the brewery discussing how they accidentally removed more ice than they had initially intended too. My understanding from that person is that the beer itself was "iced".

You make funny, Rock-man, but it's true. Had it at Surly tonight & it's nothing like the original.

I don't drink coffee & after one sip of the original fresh, I couldn't drink it, either - it was more coffee than beer. My coffee-addicted wife loved it. The current iteration is a stout with very muted roast flavors, kind of like the bottle of Four I had with three years on it. Good on Surly for re-making their anniversary beers, but neither Three nor Four matched their original glory. And get the fuck off my lawn.

 

I had one at Surly last night.
