    just curious...
Many of my new local breweries are now offering multiple bottle sizes in their brews (12oz, 500ml, 22oz). I much prefer this to a growler.
Growlers seem like such an inconvenience in both size and ability to keep beer at peak freshness, not to mention the inability to cellar them if desired.
Just curious if anyone has an compelling reasons that they actually like growlers, because to me they are a last resort.

Yes, people enjoy growlers. Breweries wouldn't sell them if people didn't.

I do. Got one in the fridge now to open later for New Beer Sunday. Some of the best beers in this country never see a bottle or can.

I buy growlers the same way I might buy a take-out pizza or Chinese food - meant to consume asap.
Bottled and canned beer is the equivalent of "groceries".

I like growlers but I was very happy when I started seeing half growlers. I almost always prefer 32 oz fills over 64 oz fills theses days. Less money and I don't have to basically consume a six pack of beer as soon as I open it.

Nothing beats fresh draft beer and the growler is the best way to experience this without being at the brewery itself.

@jesskidden hit the nail on the head for what I like about growlers.

So far as I'm concerned a growler is a take out pitcher of beer to be shared at the table when there are folks in for dinner. Fortunately there's a place about a mile from here that fills growlers and it's only a few doors from the nearby pizza place which also does a first rate Philly Cheese Steak and Crab Cakes that are more crab than anything else being mixed in to hold the cake together.

I get 1/2 growlers once in awhile.
Get a good beer for around $6
and can knock it off in a sitting.
But I don't buy them as often
    as I used to.

A pint at a bar is a good way of experiencing draught beer... I guess I'd place that in between drinking at a brewery and getting a growler depending on the circumstances.

That didn't answer my question....I have purchased them also, because there is no other option. Given a choice, do people prefer them, and if so why?
    Thanks for your insightful response

The brands available in growler around here are also available in bottles or cans so the larger container doesn't offer me any advantage. I could of course share one over pizza but I would rather my guests have a choice than be limited to what's in the growler.

Growlers enable you to drink beer at home that you normally have to drink at a bar. What 's wrong with that?

I haven't come across that yet as the majority of beer on the Growler station are not packaged. When the 3 canned Melvin beers come to town, they could be an exception.

Like most have said, I am not really fan of growlers unless its a one off that I couldn't get otherwise. It seems around here for the most part sell the same stuff you can find in bottles or cans and at a marked up price. I'd rather just go to growlers. Aluminum is still infinitely recyclable. :grinning:

I agree that sometimes its annoying but most places offer 32 oz format which works well in my opinion. plus a lot of beers only available for growler fills!

I don't mind them when they are filled properly.
