Father looks at daughter wearing too much make-up.
Daughter looks at father in crocs.

Both in unison, "You're not going out looking like a clown!"

    Very accurate!

There is no better shoe when I'm brewing. I can get them wet and they keep good traction.

I don't know of any bars here in New England that allow pets, and I don't think I would frequent any bar that has dogs all over the place. No problem with dogs, but too many irresponsible pet owners out there. Overall pretty awful concept.

My dog usually has a hard time finding anything on the tap list to his liking, so he's cool with drinking alone at the house.

In all honesty, I started crying when I wrote that last paragraph. In public. Like I am again, now.

Nobody in their right mind seriously cares much about what kind of shoes somebody is wearing (barring situations where you'd have to wear more protective shoes for safety reasons, anyway) -- that crap's more of an indicator of somebody's intelligence than wearing Crocs (or whatever the "it's cool to irrationally bash this" thing of the week might be next) could ever be.

As for dogs in bars/breweries -- I've never run into the "20 dogs" situation and honestly it seems pretty unlikely that that many people would all just happen to bring their dogs unless the place doesn't just allow it but encourages it. I have been in a brewery where I saw three dogs in one day, and they did indeed come over to sniff everyone and such, but it didn't cause any problems at all. The only way I can see the presence of a dog causing any real problem is if it's a situation like one previous post mentioned -- poop/pee happens inside the building and they just run off rather than cleaning up after the dog -- or if the dog just isn't used to being around a lot of strangers and freaks out or something. But those are reasons for that specific dog (or owner) to not be there, not reasons for not allowing any dogs in.

I'd prefer more dogs and less people at many of these establishments.

First of all the OP is speaking of Asheville. The place is a circus, with every kind of 2 legged or 4 legged critter imaginable. It truly is a madcap municipal melange of species. If one doesn't embrace it, it just might embrace you. Asheville requires a type of diligence that doesn't include any level of "stuffiness". Otherwise one may end up hating the place. And that should never happen to anyone.
I like people just fine, but in all honesty, I'm partial to dogs. But I like dogs on my terms and not necessarily theirs. A small bar with ten dogs could be OK, but I doubt it. Most folks seem to keep control of their pets and there is no problem. Maybe the Fire Marshall can develop a dog limit similar to human occupancy standards.......

Thank you for your input and recommendation but I'll stick to the fact that:
    (1) I don't know you and you don't know me, so please keep your advice to yourself.
    (2) I take it that you don't have a dog that can easily make you feel guilty with one look and is her happiest when she is out and about meeting friendly people/dogs instead of being cooped up all day.
    (3) For most of the breweries that I've been to that are dog friendly - I usually end up socializing with the owner and their dogs, other patrons that have dogs or people that appreciate dogs and never have imposed my dogs presence on somebody that may be scared or doesn't like dogs. (New Glarus, Only Child, Tighthead etc.)

You can't possibly know this and it can't possibly be a fact. If someone shows up that is terrified of your dog they probably just left. Bully for you. Still a perfect record.

    Yeah, I am with you.

I love dogs. These days many people equate dogs to people/children. They aren't. They are family members and cool to hang out with, drink beer with, play with etc.; but they aren't people. No matter how many sweaters, sunglasses, or bandanas they wear.

Service dogs? Absolutely. But, I have issues with animals in grocery stores or eateries that aren't service animals, just because a person can't stand to leave them for an hour.

I really have no problem with dog friendly bars. Its pretty clear which ones are or aren't, so I think if you don't like them, stay clear, no big deal. otherwise find a place at the brewery/bar where they can't get to you if it bothers you that much.
