Was gonna take you to task on flip-flops at a bar but it appears that's been taken care of.

I'm skeptical that there were 30 dogs in any of the places you went to this weekend though. I'm at Lagunitas Petaluma all the time which is a HUGE campus and markets themselves as the premiere dog friendly spot and I doubt I have seen even half that amount on any single trip there.

Marlowe and I are inseparable. We go on walks, to the beach, to the hardware store, to family gatherings and to any brewery or bar that will have us. I'm a non confrontational person but could see myself overcoming that if anyone tried to come at me about bringing him somewhere that he is explicitly allowed.

Not silly at all. If you need a service animal then great. If people abuse the system, well then they are inconsiderate scumbags. If places are pet friendly, then great. By all means, take your dogs out and about downtown. My issue is, where do you draw the line? If it's a legitimate need, I get it. But what about the lap dog? Can he sit on the bar, next to me and my food? Some people are allergic to dogs. Do you then allow cats, reptiles, and rodents just to be fair?

I feel the same way as the OP does regarding toddlers and stroller babies.

Iv'e got a test i'm supposed to be studying for so I don't want to get too much into this.

Maybe people have to "abuse" the system because the system is flawed in the firs place?
Maybe it was only created because too many people were offended by pets in public in the first place?

I'm not saying one way or the other, i'm not part of the system, if I was however I would certainly "abuse" it. Taking full advantage of every "system" in life whether fair or not is how people get ahead. Also if my dog can take an airplane ride for free with a little vest on or I can pay $200 for him to have a ticket I am sure as hell picking the vest option.
As far as drawing the line i'd like to go back to the flawed system. You probably aren't aware of this but these same people could have a miniature horse roaming the bar and dropping cow sized shits on the patio.

Maybe be careful what you wish for and just let people bring their dogs for a drink.

I highly doubt people are letting their dogs sit and walk on a bar next to your food for many reasons so I will ignore that hypothetical. Allergies are allergies, just because someone is allergic to nuts doesn't mean it's going to stop them from being on the bar!
Anyways too much time spent on things that matter too little. Cheers!

I agree with OP. Here in Charlotte, Sycamore Brewing allows dogs. There are literally 30 dogs on a Saturday, laying there in the way, pissing on benches, etc. So, I just don't go there. Its crowded enough as it is.

But if you ban them, they will say they are emotional support animals....

I've had a dog my entire life and I honestly like my dog more than most people, but that doesn't mean I would take my dog to a bar. Seems kind of silly to me!

I have dogs. And kids. Bringing dogs to a dedicated brewery - usually ok, as long as it's not crowded. Bringing them to a place where people are sitting down and eating is never ok.

I have been to Asheville. And Ithaca. And Austin. The ideology that dominates those areas tends to breed sociopaths who hate human beings and love animals. Dogs get a much more positive reaction than kids. Really messed up priorities for these types of people. I'm a dog lover, always have been. But dogs are not human beings. Dogs are not family. They are animals that people are allergic to and that often engage in disgusting behavior like liking their buttholes. Keep the animals at home. Dogs are not drinking buddies. Stop with the sociopathic behavior and engage with actual human beings and have a conversation.

My dog is a member of my family.
My infant son does things that are just as disgusting as what Marlowe does, trust me.
Calling people sociopaths for extending the same love and respect to an animal that they would to a human is a really intense overreaction. Insinuating that Asheville, Ithaca and Austin breed sociopaths is painting with a pretty broad brush.

I will agree with you here. I actually really like dogs, and I have one myself, but some people take it too far. For whatever reason we have gotten to a point in culture where if you don't want to pet someone else's dog you must have some sort of attitude problem. A lot of the people really need to learn to expect other people space.

The places I've visited that allow dogs, its been a big hit. I'm sure they've considered some people would rather not go there because of it and don't really care. If my dogs weren't so big and get over excited around new people I would take them. I don't because it would be a pain for me, not because it might offend someone else.

Oh, don't even get me started about those huge ass double-wide, off-road ready strollers that the mommies feel perfectly entitled to parking in the entryway, or hallway, or just right in the damn way. Rude, inconsiderate, and entitled. Buy a bike lock for the damn thing and lock it to the bike rack outside!

I'm not a huge fan of dogs, and I largely agree with the OP, but this is spot on. This country (and I assume the world, but I am not well travelled) is crawling with complete and total morons. Too many selfish assholes who don't see a world beyond themselves.

I'm with the OP as well. But for me it is much simpler: I don't go to bars that allow dogs. It doesn't seem like much of a big loss to me. And, yes, I like dogs and have a dog. I avoid those places less because of the dogs and more because of the people that are into bringing their dogs to bars.

Loving your pet is fine. Saying you love a pet as much as a person...that's indeed a bit unhinged. Animals aren't people. I have pets, and care for them, but our society has gone a bit overboard on its pets, and this thread is an example. I frequent a dog friendly liquor store, but only because I've only seen one dog there. If there were lots of them all the time they'd likely lose my business, and a bar or restaurant? No chance, except maybe on an outside patio.

Good lord, I really don't want to go down the "dogs are people too" road. Dog people are insufferable. Yes, because you asked, I've had and have many pets in my life. Several dogs, several cats, and we care for a flock of chickens. All are/were well cared for and loved. But I've never lost sight of the fact that they are animals.

So let me rephrase- I wouldn't want to be responsible for my dog's behavior when I'm trying to kick back and have a few beers, especially when I'm in close quarters with people who might not like my mutt, or are allergic, or don't want to get their balls sniffed. It's inconsiderate. Plain and simple.

The places around here only allow dogs on patios, never inside the building, and the bars that allow dogs don't allow them on Friday or Saturday nights. I'm not positive about the breweries, because I haven't seen dogs there on the weekends, but I think if they have a larger patio, they're fine with them as long as they stay outside.
I've been in a group with a dog and people are nothing but nice about it(though it is Minnesota, what do you expect? :grinning: ).
