Great thread @Mantooth. I think this is a relevant topic that most of us can relate to. That being said, I don't really get the issue here for those of you that don't like to go to bars/taprooms that allow dogs. If someone doesn't like that a particular establishment allows dogs then take it up with the establishment and/or don't go there. I understand that someone might really really want to go to a certain place, but they allow dogs so they can't. Sorry ... this is life. There are many places that people don't or can't go to because of one reason or another. The owner of the establishment has made the conscious decision to lose the business of some in favor for the business of others. I agree that the issue many times is the owner of the dog. Many dog owners don't manage their dogs properly in public and, in my opinion, it is the responsibility of the establishment to handle these cases. It's not really reasonable to expect every dog owner to behave how we might expect. People are stupid and you can't fix stupid.

I love dogs (definitely fall into the 'they are my family' camp) and I do enjoy frequenting dog-friendly places. I never bring my dog to these places because I go there to enjoy myself and relax and due to the fact that my dog is not exceptionally well trained (my own fault and I'm OK with that). Therefore, she stays at home so I don't have to spend the whole time managing her and making sure she isn't infringing on anyone else's good time. I enjoy going to these types of places simply because I enjoy being around dogs. If there is a specific issue (overcrowding, not cleaning up poop/pee, etc.) then why not bring it up with the establishment? I can't imagine that the owners of these dog friendly establishments would tolerate an owner not picking up after their dog or allowing the dog to roam free in the establishment. I have experienced many times where someone is asked to better control their dog or just simply to not bring their dog anymore. If the establishment doesn't handle these types of situations I will bring it to their attention and if they continue to allow it I will go somewhere else.

Bottom line -- if an establishment wants to be dog friendly it should be solely the responsibility of this establishment to make sure that the dogs are not causing others to have a bad experience. If they fail to do this, I would imagine many people would stop going there and their business will likely take a hit. Maybe not. It's their establishment and they can allow in whoever they want (depending on laws).

Should they have at least one inch heals too? :grinning:

On a related note, the whole flip-flop thing is regional. I saw a comedian (from the east coast) get booed off stage in San Diego for making fun of guys who wear flip-flops. That is because in San Diego everyone wears them. It is a perfectly acceptable form of footwear for most occasions.

So sorry for your loss. I hope you all are able to focus on the good times you shared with her.

Your post really accentuates the insensitivity and ignorance of some posts in this thread.

It is just like bringing kids to a bar/brewery/whatever, whether they should really be there or not depends mostly on the parenting of the adult humans who are responsible for them. Nevertheless, saying people shouldn't be allowed to bring them is a fight you are going to lose and understanding that you have to tolerate other people and their pets/children when you go out in public is part of being a grownup. So is not letting it ruin your day when it becomes apparent that some of those people suck or have different priorities than you.

It's apples to oranges to compare food and pet allergies. Most people with food allergies are fine being around the food so long as they don't ingest it. I'm this way with shellfish. You can eat a steaming bowl of clam chowder and breathe on me, though I prefer you didn't, and I'd be fine. Peanuts, however, do not move themselves to places they're not wanted and suspend their allergens in the air which is what happens with pet dander. People here bring there dogs to stores like CVS - the same place people with pet allergies go to get their meds, FFS! Very considerate! There's also fear of dogs that is a legitimately diagnosed phobia that often stems from attacks earlier in life. I don't have either of those issues and I love dogs but I think people should be respectful of others. I'm even OK with a few dogs at breweries that don't serve food, especially outside areas but I would be very annoyed in a situation like the one the OP described.

Edit: and for the record, I do not care about what footwear people go with, but I understand wearing them in hot and humid places. The only exception is if people have really gross feet, like with the yellow nails, then them shits need to be covered up.

love dogs and love breweries. I dont mind the occasional dog at a brewery, but when it becomes a "thing" like anything else, it becomes very annoying.

This is pretty spot on. However, I will never have a beer with someone who would happily exterminate an entire species to save one individual. Most other differences are minor (I'm not touching on the footwear).

Some have mentioned. If its peak hours, please no KIDS or dogs, especially if space is tight. If it's a more casual time, have at it.

No offense to local breweries around my way, when its a evening say past 5 until close, when space is tight and there is a family of 8 taking up space while mom and dad have a beer, I take to having some issues with that. It's not a restaurant and they arent eating food truck food. It's loud and I hear vulgarities all around. I just don't see it as a great place for them.

I did intentionally frequent a Brooklyn dog-bar for many years. There were regulars. It occasionally devolved into a dog-fight bar, but we're not supposed to talk about that...

I wouldn't bring my dog. He's weird. He's friendly to some and sketchy and about to to bite with others. People and other dogs. I guess he gets certain vibes. Plus hes older and i don't want to stick him in a crowd.

Weed is ridiculous, last time there every seat taken, 3 deep at the bar, and 2 as in 2 bartenders for a crush of people. I won't go back the hotel rates reflect demand, and the hotel owners are more than accommodating. I can get most of Asheville beer here, no reason to spend $1000 over a weekend drinking mostly average beers.

Damn, people are too sensitive. First off, let me be clear, I don't bring my dog to bars or breweries. Second, I kind of love it when people do, assuming the dog is well behaved. Third, you're lucky if I bother to put on flip flops. People need to toughen up a bit.
