Is this dog friendly brewery thing like a new fad? It hasn't hit over here yet AFAIK. Nothing against dogs, but a brewery isn't a place for them. I'd have no problem with them outdoors or even in some indoor designated area, though.

im with you. if they are behaved and only a couple, I would probably be ok. if the places is overrun by mutts I would just choose to go elsewhere. people have this mentality these days that they deserve and are entitled to having everything their way. the owner has the right to run things as he/she sees fit. plenty of other options im sure.

When I worked with the public a few years ago (so, things have probably changed) we were allowed to ask if it was a service animal. We were not allowed to ask what service it provided, or if they had any documentation ("proof") that it was a service animal. Something to do with how the ADA is written, IIRC.

I'd likely be WaOOooooo-ing right along with him. I love the sound of a good hound howl.

I try to take my dog to one of two local pubs once a month, early on a Sunday afternoon soon after his bath. The best days for both of us are if we took in the dog park before the bath because it wears him out a little bit; I, of course, illegally take a canned beer with me. My dog is big and perhaps too friendly, so he is on a short leash with my hand on him most of the time which the attention I'm giving him seems to make him happy. Both these pubs have large outdoor areas with treats for dogs, and a pooper scooper if needed.

Oh, he is socialized around other dogs, it is just that he is young, very strong and curious. So we stay less than an hour, that is enough sitting (relatively) still for him, and being early Sunday afternoon there are few other customers there so he got to interact with smiling people, lick a few toes,... Remember, your dog is a part of your life, but to the dog you are his whole life so make these moments shared something good for him.

Thoughts with you as our 14 year old Lab is on her last legs and it plain sucks. That said I could bring her anywhere and you wouldn't know she's there unless you approached her, then you'd have a new friend.
We don't have the dog everywhere seen here in Chicago land but I spend a lot of time in Colorado and dogs are a way of life in many areas there.
In one brewpub all the dogs were pretty much in one area and I was amazed until I found out that's where the food truck people kept "dropping things" pretty good idea
Sorry again for the loss of your friend

The reason you can't ask for proof is there is no official documentation an animal is a service animal. Some training services may offer or provide a certificate, card, or other document. One can also find any number of places online which will provide documentation an animal is a service animal without any testing.

Don't really have a strong feeling either way. I've brought my dog to a brewery twice (the same one), just because it was on the way home after a hike. It was honestly kind of annoying making sure she wasn't bothering anyone.

Living in a very dog friendly state, I just see it as one of those things I may not love, but kind of have to deal with. However, I was at a brewery a couple weeks ago, and there were a TON of dogs. Fine. But lots of them had leashes attached to them but no human attached to the leash, just running around. I don't like that. And towards the end of the night, I saw TWO dogs standing on the actual bar. They were really small dogs but still, FUCK THAT. That would not be allowed in my establishment.

I love it when people "introduce" their dog to everyone else's dog and they end up starting a huge/loud canine melee.

    Oh wait, no I don't.

I seek out places to take our dog with us, because well, I just like it and he does. We will drive downtown and meet my sister in law who brings her dog. We sit out in the area reserved for dog owners and enjoy beer and food. The places we go "advertise dog's welcome" and it is a majority of their business. These owners aren't forced into doing this, and you are not forced to go there. So rant on, but if you don't like it don't go to their establishment. I don't like going places that are kid friendly now, as my 3 are all grown up now, and it isn't that cute anymore listening to kids scream and yell. When I was raising my kids, if they started pulling that shit in a restaurant, no warning, in the car and back to the house. Same goes for my dog, if he starts being a dick wherever we are at, in the car and back to the house.

In case anyone is counting votes for a constitutional amendment on the subject before this gets locked, put me down for pro dog and cat. Won't repeat all the thoughtful, mature, rational comments already mentioned.

I don't think it too much to ask that you endure my shedding, ill-behaved, germ infested, disease spreading evil spawn of Satan devil dog when I'm expected to put up with your screaming kids, frat boys, beer snobs loud enough so everyone in a ten block radius hears how much they know, bros and dudes wearing the mandatory conformist costume of baggy cargo shorts, Under Armor shirt and hat on backwards, yahooing and high-fiving every three seconds, spilling beer, butting in line, glued to obnoxiously loud TVs covering every square inch of wall, political rants by know-it-alls who suspiciously don't seem to have jobs.

Well, that and flip flops (unless you're at a beach bar.)

As a dog owner, if there were bars here were pooch friendly I would certainly take her along. But I would apply the same logic I do with my two year son. If I go to eat out with him and he's misbehaving and I can't curb it, I leave. It's annoying to everyone around to have a screaming kid or a barking dog there when you're trying to relax. I have friends who are far more annoying to be out in a bar with than my dog (and probably sniff more butts too).

Sorry for your loss. 6 years is a lot less time than the you deserved together. It's hard losing a great friend like that. My pal is getting up there in years. I remind myself of that every time I don't have the motivation to take him for a nice long walk or a hike. He is such a great dog and we both deserve to spend as much time as we have left together. Sounds like you have some great memories of time spent with your pup.

What bothers me about this is the fact that asking for proof that a given dog is a service animal is prohibited. That's just begging for people to abuse the system, which just makes it more difficult for folks that legitimately need a service animal.

OT: Don't go out drinking enough to be bothered one way or another. Middle of the road on this particular issue.

No it is not my loss because I don't enjoy being around dogs! I'm really not interested in having a dog "love me completely".
