Yep. Hoping they are getting their mojo back.

So, I read your post to my fiancé, who is also soy intolerant. She speculated that perhaps your fiancé is more sensitive or intolerant than she is, because she was surprised this is such a problem for you/her. In addition to being soy intolerant, my fiancé also can't eat anything with caffeine or chocolate in it ("white chocolate" is OK), and she abhors cilantro. That being said, I can't think of a single restaurant we've needed to avoid or had a problem with in PDX because of her allergies. Cilantro and chocolate are more of an issue for her, especially at any restaurant that has a significant Asian or South of the border selection on the menu.

Many restaurants in PDX will actually inquire as to whether or not anyone at the table has any food allergies when you first sit down (or if there is some particular spice or food group you can't or don't want to eat). Otherwise, I would simply inform the staff at any restaurant you visit of your fiancé's food allergies before ordering. As @digita7693 mentioned, Portland restaurants are VERY accommodating when it comes to customers who have any sort of food allergy, and really, I can't think of any place in town that you should need to avoid (though obviously, I haven't eaten at every restaurant in town, so it's possible you might come across some place that isn't completely accommodating when it comes to your fiancé's food allergy).

    Have fun.

That is very encouraging to hear. It sounds like it might just be a difference in food cultures between Portland and Boston and most of the other places we've been. We're really looking forward to it now and if the ability to accommodate allergies is as great as you and others have said you may have a couple new neighbors soon.

I've been out at restaurants on multiple occasions w people w myriad allergies and food peculiarities and nobody has ever blinked. Pdx might not be perfect, but it's got food, beer, coffee, bike lanes and public transit pretty much figured out.

Thanks much for the info! my wife & I will be visiting in mid October for a few days, so hope to have some time to get around. We'll prepare for the weather to go either way at that time of year (x-PNW native).

@Arassuil September-October IMHO is THE BEST time for a beer in Cascadia!

Another great trip to Portland. I am jealous that you all are surrounded by so much good beer. I always hate coming back to Texas.

On this trip we made it to Cascade, Hair of the Dog, de Garde, and Great Notion. We also went to Green Dragon, Belmont Station, and Tin Bucket. I was a little disappointed with Tin Bucket but thought Belmont Station was great.

Cascade and HOD are always great but we really enjoyed Great Notion. That Blueberry sour they have on is delicious! Plus I got another pour of the Once a Great Cow collab with de Garde.

Hopefully we can make it back again next year. Brought 12 bottles back with me on the plane and shipped another 18 back.

I think that's the first time I've ever heard anyone say that! Was it the beer list that didn't do it for you, atmosphere, service? Just curious. It's a top 3 beer bar in PDX for me.

I thought they were going to have more bottles. Taps were great, but I was expecting a large selection of bottles, which maybe was my fault for expecting that. And, we went on Sunday afternoon and were the only 2 in there so the atmosphere was lacking but nothing wrong with that.

Not a favorite of mine either. Can't fault them on space, but it's like drinking in a box. Good for a couple rounds but not for lengthy stay. I feel to close to the customers grazing the beer section or standing in line at counter.

Visiting Portland and surrounding areas in June. Here's a list of places I've put together, mostly for lunches and dinners and less "just for drinking" since it's a family vacation.

Any thoughts? Any you'd recommend NOT going to and any options that I should consider keeping in mind it's with the kiddos?

    Portland: Breakside, Cascade, Fat Heads
Hood River: Double Mountain, perhaps Full Sail
Bend: 10 Barrel, Deschutes (need another suggestion here)

    Thanks guys/gals!

Skip Full Sail and hit Pfriem when in HR. In Bend, hit Bend Brewing, Crux, and Silver Moon.

In addition to @beertunes great suggestions for Bend, I'll say that wait times for a table at 10 Barrel can be ridiculous so also consider Sunriver Brewing a block away (you should consider them even if the wait isn't long too). If you're open to places other than breweries, Brother Jons, food cart pod The Lot, and Jackson's Corner have good local taplists, though almost anywhere in town has an at least decent beer lineup.

^ This, though I'd consider visiting Logsdon as well in Hood River, if they're open.

I thought of that, but there's more for the family at Pfriem. Reminds me, I haven't had a Seizoen Bretta in a while, might have to grab one.

Logsdon Barrel House is just a block over from Double Mountain, so very easy to visit both. At least pick up a bottle of Peche 'N Brett.

Platypus Pub in Bend is kid friendly. I like their food and there's always a good taplist. Jackson's Corner is another Bend favorite.

    Thanks...and keep them coming.

Also, any places I can pick up packaging material to send some stuff home would be appreciated (preferably in Bend or Portland).
