The black logo snifters were only available at the merch tents for $15/pair. Only 240 pairs available total.

Only 240 pairs?! If that's truly the case, I'm pumped I grabbed a set of them. I can't say much for this year's DMC snifters (since I didn't get any), but the quality of the print on these is substantially nicer than the purple DMC snifters I got last year.

Oh, I saw that at the merchandise tents, and was the one I really wanted but waited too long on. When someone said black snifter, I thought they actually meant the glass was black, not the logo. :flushed:

    Glass whalez brah!
I grabbed the black shirt that had a giant mech dude on the front and a tank with the DLD 2016 on the back.

I would have done the same thing. Here's my money...thank you.

So reading this thread has been thoroughly entertaining, and from somebody who has never been to DLD, I'm more determined than ever to experience this madness.

Just kind of a big picture thought though: Is DLD considered to be something of an eyesore for the craft community? It certainly seems to attract the underbelly of the craft culture i.e. thievery, price gouging, over serving. As far as I can tell, this is the most public and popular beer release in the country, and it seems devolve a bit year after year.

And I'm sure this has been discussed and shot down previously, but how would people feel about eliminating the bottle share in the lines? It's pretty obvious that for some of these people who ended up being in the horror stories, that they're totally obliterated before they even step into the event. If not eliminating the bottle sharing, perhaps folks can be more careful not to over serve/share with others who are clearly in no condition to keep drinking anything but water.

All told, this whole thing is a great study in human behavior, lol. Flame away ladies and gents...

Can anyone remember what stone beer was on tap around 2pm? I remember it being awesome but I couldn't remember the name.

Eliminating the bottle sharing in line would be awful, and this is coming from someone who only really started partaking in it this year (been the last 3 years). The lines suck, and taking away the bottle share really sucks a lot of the fun out of that aspect. The weather has been shitty for the last 3 years; who wants to spend 1-2 hours in line in really shitty weather, just to get in? Granted, that doesn't happen later in the day, but you've still got lines all over the place for beer/food/etc.

So nah, don't drop the bottle sharing. It's no one's fault if someone over-drinks but that person themselves; I wouldn't advocate shutting a bar down because it was frequented by loud, violent drunks, either. Just get those guys outta there!

That was going to be my guess. That beer was much tastier than I thought it would be, given how little time Stone left it in the barrel.

There's some truth this and I can understand wanting to scale back the drunkenness, but the bottle sharing in line makes the line tolerable for those who get there early and have to wait to get in. I think this should be a self-policing act. One area that should be improved is throwing some recycling containers at various spots, both inside and outside. While the dead whale collection is interesting, I bet it would reflect better on the community if we didn't litter on the streets.

...makes the line intolerable, until you gotta go and you're locked in.

Joking aside, I was really disappointed how quickly they were picking up bottles this year. It's not like we throw them on the road and scatter them everywhere. I wanted a good long picture like I got last year, but a better one. It wasn't even 10AM and they started picking up the bottles before they were even stacked against each other. I was super bummed.

Stone had their Russian Imperial Stout about that time. I got it because they just ran out of DPB 2 people ahead of me in line.

Didn't check the time. I just know it was the only Stone I saw from my vantage point there. Would have liked to have tried the other one.

Yeah, I sincerely regret passing on it in bottle form when it came to Chicago. It was ~$18, and I was hearing mixed things about it (partially because it didn't have the thickness and barrel qualities people were hoping for), and it was only aged, what, 3 months or something? I bought a bottle when I was on a trip (something to drink at a BYOB place) and was really blown away by how much I liked it. Very tasty (although I would like a version aged for 6 months to a year).
