Picked up a four pack at Milwaukee discount yesterday.

Had one last night and didn't enjoy it much. Didn't pick up any artificial flavours, but it definitely had a thin mouthfeel. Tasted like coffee and not much else - no chocolate notes, no malt roastiness. It's a shame since this is the beer that drew me into craft beer - "A beer can taste like this, wow"

Hopefully it was just a shot palette from something I ate or drank beforehand and the other three bottles are fantastic.

I could not find bottled date anywhere on the two four packs I picked up. All of my other Founders releases are clearly marked.

Not sure if this was covered in another thread already, but what has everyone been paying for a 4-pack? I suppose location would help as well. I saw someone mention $9/four-pack, but the going rate here in Long Island seems to be $13.

I try to ONLY pick this up at the brewery since I am local, but even there it's $10 out the door.

Bought a case at $8.50 per 4 pack in IL yesterday. And it is as delicious as it ever was.

Yes I agree with OP it has a thinner body than last year and the coffee-ness is an instant crystal type of flavor. Shades of Frangelic, I believe. Sucks cuz this is one of my favorite beers. I guess I'll be getting a case of W-n-B instead this year, and drink more Alewerks Coffeehouse stout, even though it's not really the same thing.

Just finished one and it was great.... Just as great as it was last year. Why do people think every big release is so different every year. Everyones palate changes over time, with all the big beers now a 8% stout is not gonna feel like a 12.... What is next? Anyone think this years KBS has less Kentucky in it?

Seriously? I just had some on tap at Founders this afternoon and considering it has been my favorite beer for years, it tastes the same as always - f'ing delicious. As for Frangelic Mountain Brown, I hated it for tasting artificial. Sorry, but I don't agree with you.

The baby on the label looks several months older this year.

I had my first bottle ever this year and it was my most highly rated beer. Phenomenal.

I just cracked one of this years I picked up today, and compared to last year, it is a bit thinner. Not saying it's bad at all, I'm loving the aroma and the coffee.

It is thinner than I can remember, and I'm actually picking up a slight metallic finish, but I have been sick the last week and I'm not firing on all cylinders.

That said- It's still just as good to me.. Looking forward to more through the winter for sure.

Oh yeah.. I guess one could think that KBS this year might be... thin and artificial?

I'm not from the future, just was at Founders over Labor Day weekend when they first put it on tap. September 21st is when distributors can sell kegs to clients to have it on tap.

And here I though I was going crazy. I bought a pack from 8-2 and thought is was great as always. Then bought a 8-15 pack and it was noticeably thinner. Was good but not great.

Drinking my first FBS of the year, bottle dated 8-15. I'm noticing some differences as well, mainly in the nose. I pick up a hint of green apple up front but it is not present on the taste. Taste is pretty much the same as I remember, perhaps a little more heavy on the cocoa and a touch dialed back on the coffee. Still pretty tasty, but not the 4.9 I rated it when I reviewed it a few years back.

I'm gonna do a study tonight.

2011 v 2012.. I know the coffee is going fast in the 2011, but the chocolate is way up there. Coffee is beatin the door in the 2012, and the chocolate is backseat driving..

I swore the 2012 last night was thinner, more metallic tasting to me at the end. Still good beer, but enough to make me come here looking to see what others thought.
